She is constantly giggling and can't even talk to Harry. In the second book, she falls prey to Voldemort's and Lucius Malfoy's evil ways. Again, she doesn't seem to use her mind critically. As the series goes on, she really starts to develop and you see more of her personality. She stands up to various people in the books: her brothers, Harry, Draco, and members of the Quidditch team. She starts to seem really tough and bold. She is an awesome Quidditch player too! By the last book (I won't spoil it for you), she fights the evil side and really demonstrates that she is a strong and confident woman. Byx has always been the runt of the litter and was SUPER shy! Byx is a Dairne. A Dairnee is a dog-like creature, but is much smarter, and walks on 2 legs, instead of 4. Anyway, when she comes back to her family den, she sees that her family has seen murdered. Sadly, her pack was thought to be the last group of Dairnes in the world. Byx doesn't want to be the ending. So throughout the story, she finds a group of people and they try to find out if she is really the last Dairne in the world. (I won't tell anymore, or I might spoil it.) In the end, she realizes that she is braver than she thinks she is. She was a two, the 2nd highest caste. America was a five, and generally upper castes weren't friendly to lower castes, and these two girls are no exception.  Celeste was a model, so she definitely looked the part of a queen. Celeste wanted the crown so badly that she did some horrible things: she put glass in a girls' slippers, she basically tore off America's dress because she wanted to be noticed, she offended a girls parents so that the girl slapped Celeste in the face and got eliminated, but one of the worst things she did to America was insulted her best friend with a word a don't want to say. 
But can you believe that underneath all of that, there could  be a scared girl, doing the only thing she knew how to do? To fight?

Maven didn't fight on the battlefield like his brother, he fought through his words. He convinced Mare that he was a good person on the inside. Mare fell for this. Of course I, the reader did too.

Maven joined the Scarlet Guard, with Mare. Maven pretended to help Mare out through all of her troubles in life. Little did I know, that Maven was one of the best actors ever. In the end of the first Red Queen book, he revealed himself for who he truly was. A monster. A cold blooded one if you ask me. This really shocked Mare AND me. For several weeks we both believed that he was an amazing guy, fighting for the same justice that she was. That proves that anyone can betray anyone, (that's a famous quote from the Red Queen book series). 

Maven Calore changed at the end of the book. I never would've guessed that he was a monster, if he hadn't revealed himself, and I'm happy that he did. We can clearly see that in Snape, Ginny, Hermione, Dumbledore, Harry Ron, Malfoy, but in my opinion, Neville has the best of all. In the beginning of the series, it is unknown is Neville even has any magic in him. He was a clumsy boy, who couldn't find his own toad, and cried because of it. Every class he went to, he failed, and took trips to the hospital wing often. It was this way in the first four books, but in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, that ALL changed, were we were practically introduced to a new character, opposing my past judgement. In the first book, Harry changes from a normal kid to a wizard, but from that point on, there were not really any huge changes to his character. The same can be said for Ron and Hermione, but Neville all of a sudden start to know magic. This starts about half way through the book, when Harry begins teaching students in Dumbledore's Army. Neville was one of the first to sign up. Then after a few classes, Neville began performing a few spells. And then, so suddenly, he began defeating Darth Eaters and fighting bravely alongside Harry in the Department of Mysteries. In the Order of the Phoenix, he had his huge change, and later on in the Deathly Hallows, he becomes slightly braver and kills Nagini, but in the beginning of Harry Potter, I would've never assumed Neville would turn out to be the way he is. As you find out later in the series, underneath all the attitude and big dresses, she’s a 18 year old girl who’s scared to run an entire country. She’s also very intelligent and independent.
