“Sometimes we think failure is the end, but actually it’s not. For example, a student failed to get the university and course he really wanted. At first it felt like everything was over. But later, he found another path, and now he is successful in his career.

So this shows that not everything that looks like a bad ending is truly bad. Failure doesn’t mean you will fail forever. It can be the start of something better.”

Belief in the Hereafter is the fifth pillar of Iman (faith). A Muslim is not a true believer without believing in life after death. The Qur’an and the Prophet ﷺ emphasize that everyone will be resurrected, judged, and rewarded or punished according to their deeds. This belief shapes a Muslim’s purpose in life and actions in this world.

Definition

Belief in the Hereafter means:

The world will end on a fixed day (Al-Qiyamah – the Last Day).

All humans will be resurrected (Al-Hashr) and presented before Allah for judgment.

Every person’s deeds will be recorded and shown.

The righteous will be rewarded, sinners will be punished.

Paradise (eternal bliss) awaits the believers; Hellfire (punishment) awaits the disbelievers.

Significance

All prophets taught belief in the Hereafter as a core part of faith.

Without it, all other beliefs lose meaning.

It helps people evaluate their actions by considering reward or punishment.

It motivates people to avoid wasting life on useless deeds.

Effects of Belief in the Last Day

Shows Allah’s greatness and perfect attributes.

Increases love and desire to meet Allah.

The greatest reward in Paradise is seeing Allah (Surah Yunus: 26).

Instills fear of Allah and accountability.

Encourages Muslims to hasten towards good deeds (Al-Inshiqaq: 4, Al-Insan: 8).

Strengthens patience during hardships, renewing hope and perseverance.

Usrah Notes: Ihsan and Eschatology

🌙 Ihsan – Spiritual Excellence

Ihsan = to worship Allah as if you see Him. Even if you do not see Him, know that He sees you (Hadith Jibril).

Rank of Ihsan is the highest level after Islam (practice) and Iman (faith).

A Muḥsin (person with Ihsan) goes beyond justice (‘adl) → they give more, expect less, and beautify every action.

Ihsan covers worship and daily life → with parents, people, animals, and even nature.

📖 Qur’an: “Indeed, Allah orders justice and Ihsan…” (Surah al-Nahl 16:90)

🌸 Examples of Ihsan

To parents → respect, obey (in halal matters), serve them kindly, pray for them. (Surah al-Isra’ 17:23–24)

Even in slaughtering animals → do it well, minimize pain. (Hadith Muslim)

Ihsan is not just ritual, but excellence in all dealings.

🌙 Eschatology – Life After Death

Belief in Akhirah = one of the pillars of faith.

This world will end → all humans resurrected (Hashr) → judged by Allah.

Reward = Paradise (Jannah). Punishment = Hellfire (Jahannam).

Qur’an uses many terms for the Last Day: al-Akhirah, al-Haqqah, al-Ghashiyah.

📖 Qur’an: “To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and earth…” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:107)

🌸 Why Belief in Akhirah Matters

Gives meaning to life and morality.

Ensures justice – since not all good is rewarded here, and not all evil is punished here.

Motivates Muslims to live ethically and prepare for accountability.

✨ Ihsan + Eschatology: The Connection

Ihsan beautifies deeds → making them sincere & excellent.

Belief in Akhirah motivates us to practice Ihsan, because Paradise is promised for the Muhsinin.

A Muḥsin lives with Murāqabah (awareness that Allah sees us), which leads to Allah’s pleasure and Jannah.

🌸 Reflection for Usrah

Ask yourself: Do I worship Allah as if I see Him?

How does belief in Akhirah change the way I live today?

Am I striving not only for justice (‘adl) but also for excellence (ihsan) in worship and dealings?

“Through Ihsan, the believer attains Allah’s pleasure.
Fasting & Its Virtues (Simple & Authentic)

1. Qur’anic Basis of Fasting

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183

“O believers! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become mindful (have Taqwa).”

Key Points

Allah calls us with “O believers” → meaning fasting is an act done by people of true faith.

Fasting was also practiced by past nations (Jews, Christians, others).

Mentioning this makes us feel encouraged and supported—others have done it, so we can too.

2. Purpose of Fasting → Developing Taqwa

What is Taqwa?

Comes from the word meaning protection / taking precaution.

Having taqwa = being careful, mindful, aware of Allah.

Example of Umar RA & Ka’b al-Ahbar:

Walking on a thorny path → you lift your clothes + walk carefully.

That carefulness = taqwa.

How fasting builds taqwa

When we stop eating, drinking, and sinning for Allah, we train our hearts to obey Him even when no one sees.

Fasting weakens desires and strengthens self-control.

3. Hadith on True Fasting

From Abu Hurairah RA:

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“If a person does not give up lies and bad behavior, Allah does not need him to leave his food and drink.”
(Sahih Bukhari)

➡️ Meaning: Real fasting is not just hunger—it is controlling the tongue, behavior, and actions.

4. Virtues of Fasting

A.

As we come to the end of this usrah, I am truly grateful for the reminders and wisdom we shared together. Today’s discussion made me reflect deeply on myself — on my intentions, my actions, and the kind of person I am striving to become.

This usrah was more than just an activity; it was a gentle reminder that every step we take begins with what lies in our hearts. When our intentions are pure, even the smallest act becomes an act of worship, and even our struggles become meaningful.

I pray that the lessons we learned today will continue to guide us, strengthen our character, and bring us closer to Allah. May we keep improving ourselves, quietly and sincerely, with intentions that are always rooted in goodness.

Thank you for this meaningful session. May our hearts stay soft, our intentions stay sincere, and our journey towards becoming better Muslims never stop.
