During the 1960s, when Valerie was only around the age of 5 years old she witnessed lots of impactful news events. However, the ones that stood out to her the most were the assassination of John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. All of these impactful US leaders had lost their lives during the '60s. Valerie remembers it being announced to her school and getting dismissed to come home early. When she got home after Jon F Kennedy's death her mother was in tears.

Aside from the sad moments in the 60s one of the positive events was the first man walking in the room. Valerie remembers watching the first man put the flag on the moon. In Valerie's eyes this was a memorable historical event to experience at such a young age.

Valerie would overall say that society has changed for the better and worse throughout her lifetime. In terms of technology, it has become far more advanced than when she was a child. Valerie remembers watching the TV in black and white TV and being amazed when it started coming in color. Now we have access to new platforms like Google and our iPhones. To add on, she shared that without technology we wouldn't be so connected globally with other countries. Technology has open us to many resources and information globally.

Overall, Valerie has noticed throughout her lifetime travels and experiences that some other countries are more progressed than the United States. For example, we talked about the idea that some other countries have more widespread access to transportation systems. Not to mention, in the United States English is the native language spoken whereas in many other countries, the population speaks various languages. All in all, the US in some circumstances is not as advanced as other countries in terms of transportation and language proficiency.
