         <title>Battle of  Port Hudson</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Port Hudson was among the last ports along the Mississippi river.  The union was trying to gain the port and the confederacy wanted to prevent this. The confederacy surrendered when they found out that reinforcements weren't coming. This opened up the gulf of mexico and the Mississippi river to the union.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Louisiana was one of the less involved states in the civil war, but it was used a lot for storage. Storing military supplies, food, ammunition, clothes, and people. Louisiana sent over 850,000 soldiers and sailors to battle. Overall, Louisiana was less involved in battles and more involved in terms of trade and carrying supplies.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>confederate general Nathaniel banks attempted to stop or slow Richard Taylor's advance toward union bases and storage. They were positioned in Mansfield and made an assault on both flanks. Even though banks had more soldiers, he still ended up retreating after over an hour of fighting.</p>]]></description>

He led the attack against fort Sumter and made the union retreat in the first battle of Bull Run. He also led attacks at Shiloh, Corinth, and Petersburg.
