Last Stop on Market Street by Matt De La Pena is a Caldecott Award winning book and this is a book recommendation.

It is very heart warming. It is about a little boy name CJ and he is going places with his grandma. Cj’s grandma takes the bus. As Cj starts asking his grandma different questions like why do we take the bus, why do we have to go to this place all the time and asking about the different people that are on the bus. The grandma gives Cj examples of how lucky they are by seeing the different types of people. When they arrive to market street and Cj starts wondering why the place is so dirty and grandma shows him the beauty of the world and he starts seeing familiar faces at the homeless shelter and at the end he is helping his grandma serve food at the shelter. I would recommend this book for any grade. This book has a great story to it.

She explains to Uncle Jim how she doesn’t know how to bake but she can garden. She helps with the bakery shop with Uncle Jim and his worker Emma. Emma teaches her to knead bread and Lydia teaches to grow flowers. Lydia finds a secrets place on the rooftop and she plans on growing flowers and other plants on the rooftop to surprise Uncle Jim.

A book review on a relaistic fiction book Muggie Maggie.

Maggie was in the third grade and was suppose to be learning cursive. Maggie refused because a computer could write the cursive for her. Her teacher Mrs. Leeper set up a conference with her mother. As her mother then tries to convince Maggie to write cursive but unfortunately it did not work. When Maggie went to school and her classmates would learn to read and write cursive. Her friends started to make fun of her because she couldn’t read or write cursive. Mrs. Leeper then had a project. She picked Maggie to be the message monitor. Mrs.Leeper knew Maggie is so noisy she sends Maggie to the principle’s office with a note. Maggie then opened the note and couldn’t read it because it was in cursive. This motivates Maggie to learn cursive. I overall liked this book because it shows the students know even though a computer does it yourself you still need to know how to do it.

The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt

This is an award winning Bluebonnet book and this is a Letter review.

Dr. Soloman

I just recently read the book “The Day the Crayons Quit” by Drew Daywalt

This book was so adorable. It is about a crayon box and they write letters to their owner name Duncan ones day complaining about either how much they use them or how he does not use them. All the colors are either being used to much or not used enough and get jealous or mad at each other. They also have a crayon in there that complains about tearing the paper off him and making him naked. I would think this book would be good for kindergarten or first grade because this shows more for the students to be creative and not color the sun yellow or orange and be creative with it. This is such a cute book especially for younger children. I think this book can help with creativeness in the classroom when students are coloring.

This is a Coretta award winning book and this is a book review response.

“Firebird” by Misty Copeland is about a little girl that loves to ballet. The author Misty Copland writes to the dancers whose confidence is fragile, As the young dancer continues to work hard and keeping up with it. She shows the dancer she can achieve the same goals as Misty. This book is definitely for children that think they cannot do it. It shows to always believe in them. I liked this book it was more of a confidence builder book. This would help the students becoming more confident in what they want to do as along as they practice what they love. For example a child that loves poetry and wants to write poetry, this book I feel like when someone gives them improvements is to take it and learn from it and eventually they will get it right. This can good with either sports or an instrument.

This is a nonfiction book and this is a blog post.

“Dyslexia” by Ann O Squire is about Dyslexia and it talks about the signs of the learning disability and explains to others what it is like having dyslexia. I think this book is good for someone that is struggling with dyslexia in school and also other students to help them understand what this disability is about and how they are not any different from other children. They just learn a different way. Students that are starting to learn will show some signs of being dyslexic and around third or fourth grade if not sooner the school usually decides to do an actually test to determine if the student has a learning disability or not. When I was in school I got diagnose in the fourth grade of having dyslexia. I had to be pulled out of classes sometimes to get a better understand of what that class or teacher was trying to teach me. I had other tools then other students.

In the book the quote is only said when the mouse are having fun and when they sneak out of the hole to get cake and try not having the mean ole cat Lion mind them and try to et them. The twelve’s mouse’s are all getting together to have this feast at night time and they are all sneaking away from the kitchen clocked that will strike at midnight. When ever they are all together and having a blast they say the words “Boom Chicka Rock, Chicka Rock, Chicka Boom”.

It moved like this, it moved like that” The reason I chose this quote was because in the book when ever is had said that rhythm the hat fell on to someone else and turned that person into a different animal. This hat has turned people into bears, kangaroos, bears, baboon, toad and giraffe. Then a wizard shows up and takes the magic hat away and turned the animals back into people everyone was just a little confused but went on with their day. This is a cute book for little kids. I love how it all rhythm together.

The book starts out with it being sunny and then windy and the little girl has to keep going inside and out to make sure she has the write clothing to put on before going outside to play. The season stops on snow and she has to put her mittens and coat on. I love that this book is a fun rhythm and I think can keep the students entertain. It helps the student also learn what kind of clothing to out on when its sunny, windy, snowing and rainy. Teachers could do fun little assignments with this as well, like look at the forecast and ask the students if they should wear a jacket tomorrow or would they be okay without one.

The next day the cows put up a sign that said “No Milk today” the farmer got furious with the cows. The next day there is a note from the cows that says “ The chickens also get cold they would like warm blankets as well”. The farmer thought this was getting a little ridiculous. The farmer made a deal if he gives them warm blankets then they have to give him the typewriter. The cows and chickens said deal.

This is a Texas Bluebonnett book and I chose to do a summary about this book

“One Potato, Two Potato” is about an old couple that is barely living to survive. They live on a farm and they only have one blanket, one coat, one chair, and each have one pair of shoes. They wished they had friends that would come over and hang out and have a blast with. They only were allowed to eat one potato a day because that’s the entire garden grew. Well one day the old man found a black pot in his garden that was dug under the potatoes. The man brought it to his wife at the house to show him what he had found. When the old man was picking up the pot he put one potato in it. When he arrived at the house there was two potatoes’. They had no ide what was going on. They started putting things in this pot that was doubled. They got two of everything and they even have two of them to make friends. After using the pot they decide that had everything they could possibly need and put the pot back under the ground.

This book is a Coretta award book and I chose to do a book recommendation about this book.

“Moses” by Carole Boston Weatherford is about the famous Harriet Tubman and how she is escaping from her master. As her journey begins he talks to God and helps her lead the way to freedom. He is also there when she goes back to escape more slaves, as God calls her Moses because she is leading the way. I would have to recommend this book to classes that are learning about Harriet Tubman and how she did escape from slavery. Even though this talks about how God was with her and in most school you cannot talk about religion, but if its book for the house I recommend it for the child just because it tells you how she did these things and what she did and how she went back and got more slaves. It’s a really great book!

Jack opens a book about dinosaurs and Jack wants to see a triceratops and the magic tree house takes them for a time of their life and sees a triceratops that the loving sister Annie names Henery. I enjoyed reading this book it had a few big words due to the names of the dinosaurs in it, it was a fun reading and I would recommend this book for any student that likes dinosaurs. For the advice for the reader I would recommend looking up the dinosaurs that you have no idea what they look like.

Thanksgiving on Thursday by Mary Pop Osborne

This book is a historical fiction and for my response I am doing a book review.

“Thanksgiving on Thursday” is about Jack and Annie visiting their mystical tree house that is in the back yard of their house that takes them places of any time period. Well Annie was trying to figure out what started Thanksgiving when the magic tree house took them to where it all started with the pilgrim’s time. I loved this book it talks a lot about the pilgrims and what they have gone through and how they all came together for a meal and how thanksgiving starts. I recommend reading this book when it comes close to Thanksgiving to let the other students know how Thanksgiving came about. Advice for readers is if you do not understand something defiantly ask or just reread the sentence and you’ll understand what is going on.

Killer Whales by Dorothy HInshaw Patent

This is a nonfiction book and for my response I decided to do a book review.

“Killer Whales” by Dorothy HInshaw Patent had a lot of information and facts about Killer Whales and their habitat. Form where they are from to where they live to different kinds of pods. Killer whales are mammals and they care their young longer then humans. Killer whales will kill anything, this how they get their name. Captivity is not a place for these large creatures. They need more room then an aquarium can handle. I recommend this book to anyone that loves Killer Whales or wants to learn more about them. Advice for the readers is if you do not like sea creatures then I suggest not to read this book, but if you want to love sea creatures or this animal this book will surprise you on how loving these animals are.
