NPHS Discovering Dreams QR Code Scavenger Hunt

Several classes at NPHS had a great time hunting the second floor for QR code yellow dream stars (like the ones hidden on the pages of the book!) to scan with their phones/tablets. Scanning the codes revealed the dreams of famous folks from the past & present, as well as some of our very own NPHS teachers.

Students had to match the dreamer to their list of dreams/quotes, which then helped them to uncover letter clues that they would add to a word scramble. After finding all of the letter clues, students had to unscramble their 6 words to discover the secret message!

If you are interested in learning more or creating an activity like this, feel free to reach out! :)

I must first extend sincere admiration for my reading colleagues who so expertly create a culture of literacy throughout their schools each and every day. Reading Week 2018 was an extenstion of that daily dedication and I was so honored to be part of it. It is so amazing to see the reading pride in our K-5 students and hear about cross content connections (including Fine Arts) in the MSs. Our kiddos are surely going places, following their dreams by reading.

Students created BookSnaps- a visual representation of what they understand using drawing tools, emojis, bitmojis, annotations on Snapchat, Google Slides, or Buncee. BookSnaps will be shared with MS librarians to display for students as a motivator to read that certain text. The best part of literacy is when you pay it forward!

NPHS students created a square that highlighted their dream for the future and how literacy or reading will help them achieve that dream. Together, all squares make a quilt to be hung in the hall of an elementary school so when young readers walk by they can look to their older peers for inspiration on the importance of reading.

Centredale enjoyed having a common book that all ages could enjoy. The best part of the week was seeing all the art work displayed around the building with the "Dream" theme. Also, everyone enjoyed seeing the primary grades dress up as what they dream to have as their career. It was a great week!

Both middle schools used the same Slide Deck for all 6th-8th gr teams/ students (that Nancy Riccardi created and willingly shared. TY Nancy! ) Some teams used the ELA classes to implement the same activities for each class, each day. On other teams, each content area teacher took an activity each day to implement. It was a fabulous success that was shared among all middle school students.
