Week 1– Taaruf ,Adab in Seeking Knowledge,Al- Quran : Book of Guidance

-Key Objectives for Taaruf

Introduce the university’s mission, vision, and culture.

Build friendships, teamwork, and sense of belonging.

Strengthen Islamic values, discipline, and adab.

1. Definition of Adab

Root word: أدب – to refine, educate, discipline.

Meaning: manners, etiquette, conduct, refinement, morals, good breeding, and proper behavior.

In Islam, Adab refers to good manners and appropriate actions based on Islamic teachings.

It is both a quality and a process that can be learned and established.

Imam Ibnul Qayyim: Adab reflects good character (akhlak) in both speech and actions.

2. Adab vs. Akhlāq

Akhlaq = moral philosophy (the “why” behind actions).

Adab = practical manners (the “how” of actions).

Adab is the practice of proper or improper behavior, while akhlaq explains the reasons behind it.

3. Adab with Parents (based on Surah Maryam 19:41–50)

Example: Prophet Ibrahim A.S. with his father.

Key lessons:

Address parents with respect and love (“Yā Abatī” – O my father).

Invite them gently to truth without insulting or belittling.

Avoid harsh words (e.g., infidel, sinner).

Share knowledge humbly without arrogance.

Advise against following Satan and warn of Allah’s punishment.

Maintain respect even when rejected or threatened.

4. Ibrahim A.S.’s Response to His Father

Despite threats, he responded with peace and promised to pray for his father’s forgiveness.

Chose to separate peacefully and rely on Allah.

Allah rewarded him with a better family (Isaac, Jacob – both Prophets).

5. Core Message

Adab emphasizes respect, humility, wisdom, and patience, especially in dealing with parents.

It reflects the beauty of Islam in balancing truth with compassion.

📖 Al-Qur’an: Book of Guidance

Final revelation, preserved unchanged.

Universal & complete for all humanity.

Miraculous in language & knowledge.

Guides in faith, law, morality, life.

Leads to success in dunya & akhirah.

This poster explains the importance of having the right niyyah (intention) in Islam. It highlights that actions become acts of worship when they are done sincerely for Allah. With correct intention, a person gains ikhlas, clearer purpose, and better direction in life. The poster also guides how to practise the right niyyah, such as renewing intention regularly, avoiding riya’ (showing off), and making du‘a for sincerity. Quranic verses and a hadith support the message, emphasizing that Allah judges actions by intentions and knows what is in the heart. Overall, the poster reminds Muslims to align daily actions with sincere faith.
