What: (purpose) to celebrate eid with families and relatives

Indonesians celebrate hari raya Idul Fitri or Lebaran (Eid Al-Fitr) massively. One of the traditions is mudik (going back to your hometown). Many people move to another city to study or work. Most of them do not go back to their hometown regularly every week or month. This Lebaran is their chance to do that since offices and schools will provide days off about a week before and after Lebaran for them to celebrate with their families or relatives.

Prophet Muhammad's birthday is an important event celebrated by Muslims demonstrating the solidarity of believers. He is a significant figure in Islam as he is the last prophet. This is referred to as “Maulidur Rasul” and marked as a national public holiday. In 2021, it was celebrated on the 19th of October. On this day, mosques are cleaned and decorated accordingly. Since the China Town of Kota Bharu is right beside our dormitory, we could see the stunning procession and hear to the sound of percussions clearly. The performers don various eerie ghost costumes and carry a gigantic dragon making it as if it’s chasing a fireball while going around the town. Everyone enjoyed the annual sight.

Malaysia National Day or also known as, Hari Merdeka is one of Malaysia's most important celebrations to commemorate the country's independence from the British rule on the 31st of August, 1957. This important day is usually celebrated with a large parade at Merdeka Square, Kuala Lumpur in the morning where all the Malaysian citizens from various ethnics and races gather around. Each Independence Day in Malaysia is given a logo and theme, which is usually a message promoting ethnic unity. This event is a must-see for everyone who wants to see Malaysia's magnificent celebrations.
