One version claims the city was founded by Hercules, 400 years before the building of Rome.<br><br>- The second version attributes the founding of Barcelona to Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca, father of Hannibal, who named the city Barcino after his family in the Third century BC.<br><br>- The Art Nouveau movement throughout Europe between 1880 and 1950 left an important legacy in Barcelona, including the work of architect Antoni Gaudí.<br><br>- Barcelonans are crazy about football (soccer to Americans.) The city is home to one of the worlds’ largest and richest football clubs, FC Barcelona. The club’s Camp Nou stadium in Europe’s largest, with a capacity of 100,000. More 1.5 million people visit the attached FC Barcelona Museum each year, making it Barcelona’s most-visited museum.<br><br>- Driving in Barcelona is dangerous with an accident occurring in the city every 19 seconds. As a result, many Barcelonans prefer to walk. The city has more than 320 acres dedicated to pedestrians.</div>]]></description>

It is also called the Day of the Rose, which in spanish is el Día de la Rosa, because of the amount of roses that one can find all over the city.<br><strong><br>- </strong>Barceloneta beaches are artificial . In fact, there were no beaches in Barcelona until 1992. The seaside of Barcelona was full of local industries up until they decided to host the Olympic Games.<br><br>- Each year, 8 million tourists visit Barcelona, making it Europe’s third most visited city after London and Paris.<br><br></div><div>- Spanish artist Pablo Picasso spent his formative adolescence artist apprenticeship years in Barcelona. The Picasso museum located the gothic Palau Aguilar houses 4,251 works and focuses on the artist’s work from his formative years through his Blue Period.</div><div><br>-  Barcelona is the first and only city that received a Royal Gold Medal for architecture in 1999. In Barcelona, he studied architecture and concluded his studies in 1878. <br><br>- Gaudí overcame the prevailing historical styles of the eclecticism of the 19th century and developed his own aesthetic with its own distinctive, but difficult to classify style.<br><br>- Gaudí is also a great craftsperson. In collaboration with artists of his time, he designed all the architectural space filled elements: works from forged iron, furniture, ceramics, sculptures, mosaics and stained glass windows. Before Domènech was devoted to his study of architecture, he studied in Madrid two semesters of physics and natural sciences.<br><br>- For his works he brought his inspiration from Moorish architecture. Playful looking mosaics and the light-flooded areas are the special recognition feature of his buildings, which is particularly at its main buildings recognized: the Hospital de Santa Creu i de Sant Pau and the Palau de la Música Catalana. Through a scholarship he came to Paris and had contact with the so-called "informal painting." Here, the artistic means are reduced to the essentials. According to the Global Language Monitor, which ranks world fashion capitals, Barcelona ranks as #5.<br><br>- The Shopping Night Barcelona (TSNB), founded in 2010, offers shoppers the opportunity to stay out until 1:00am to shop in the Passeig de Gràcia neighborhood at the beginning of December. Many stores offer promotions and sales aimed at attracting holiday shoppers. Additionally, traffic is blocked off so that shoppers can easily move through the streets, enjoying the stores as well as the festive events such as street food booths, local concerts, and other performances. In 2015, TSNB brought 85,000 shoppers to Passeig de Gràcia.</div>]]></description>
