Step Count Via Accupeedo App = 32,302
Activities: This week was another positive week for my Mentee. They maintained their healthy exercise regimen as well as a healthy diet. their motivation continues to be at an ample level and they have yet again set a personal best regarding steps in a week since they started the program. The Mentee has outlined how the increased participation regarding aerobic exercise has significantly helped with his personal Mental Health and Concentration levels.
Topic of Conversation: As I mentioned in last weeks entry I wanted to discuss how my Mentee has been able to make such an adequate amount of free time to engage in their now large-scale physical activity. In two words they summed it up with 'Compromise and sacrifice'. They mentioned how their level of sedentary time via watching TV and engaging in gaming consoles and their mobile phone had decreased largely. My Mentee outlined how they have a scree report app on their phone that logs their hours sent on the device and declared how his weekly time spent has been more then halved since he started the program. Still I offered him a number of resources regarding time management in case a situation arises where he may need them.

On top of this this my Mentee also trains twice weekly with his hometown GAA Club whom he travels home every weekend to participate with. Therefore is is impartial to say that my Mentee has completed another successful week as is pertinently evident from the fact that they set a new personal best of Weekly steps since they began the Made2Move program.
Topic of Conversation: My Mentee wished to discuss with me their interest in beginning to incorporate HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training - into their routine and asked me to divulge any knowledge I possessed regarding the concept. As part of my College course I have studied HIIT extensively and was able to discuss the concept with him including the benefits and negatives regarding the type of exercise. In conclusion they decided to no longer follow that trail but choose to maintain their current program as they felt it was working effectively for them.

I outlined a number of resourced to him regarding these topics and hope that my Mentee now possess a grate understanding of the concept. They maintained their cardio and stress relieving routines to maintain an overall well balanced healthy regimen. Topics of Conversation: I interviewed my Mentee and asked them how the program was overall as this would be our last weekly meeting. They outlined a gleaming review and exclaimed the overwhelmingly positive effect it had on their overall health and how is reignited their passion for sport and health which had been extinguished as a result of years of 'College Life'. they outlined how the Made2Move program was a gateway to a new 'Phase' of their life and stated that they would recommend it to anyone who was in a similar situation as they were. I was also delighted with their overall view of me as Mentor stating that my commitment to them was a key driving force in their desire to be all in on the program and how my overall help throughout the 8 weeks was invaluable. i am very happy with how the program went overall and am pleased with the results across all integrants.

This program was a unique opportunity to enhance my ability to analyses the progress of a participant on a one-to one measurement. In my future teaching it will primarily be at a group level so this program allowed me to start at ground zero. Experience and knowledge was perhaps the most valuable things i have attained from the program. Previously I never thought how much my research skills would be improved. The concept of responsibility that the program implemented has no doubt improved my professionalism and ability to conduct my organisation and preparation at this level.

Observing progress of the participants not just my own has fulfilled the gratification i had anticipated from the program. The success that you helped to create is immersive and leaves you wanting more and so assimilates a goal that i will seek to attain throughout my teaching profession not just in the school environment bu in my community as a whole.

Organisation is a pivotal cornerstone for the success of any PE teacher as they are perhaps those that are most prone to hazards and have the most pressure to help students. So being able to identify the responsibility you have by participating in a program such as the Made2Move grants the opportunity to psychologically fulfil your goals and professional requirements.

When i heard of the initiation of the program I saw an opportunity to help someone close to me in an organised manner. I felt my oppurtunity to help was at its peak. I felts that by embracing and acknowledging the accountability put more pressure on me to succeed and therefore my commitment was maximised. Not only did my role as a Mentee mean that I had an obligation to my Mentee but I also had a commitment to the program and its organisers which was to uphold and improve the reputation and expansion of the program which again enhance my desire to do the best i could for both parties I was tied to.

The Made2Move programs centre is based around the concept of volunteerism and belief in helping those who may be struggling in the physical well being compartment of their lives. Luckily in most communities Physical Activity, Sports etc play an integral role and promote the idea of Volunteerism. Local GAA, Soccer, Rugby Clubs and so on all offer a base of volunteers interested in physical well being but also offer a concept of structure that has been proven effective in the past and so Governance, Structure and Volunteerism are areas that can be extensively secured in order for this program to work in the majority of communities. Schools also have similar strucutres as well as a responsibility to provide their students with an education regarding physical health and so the transitioning of such a program from Third Level to Primary and Post Educational Structures as well as in communities can be attained and acquired to a high potential of success throughout.

The concept of evaluation can be transparently analysed through a number of methods. While the goal of the program is to improve the physical health of the participants improving relating to their goals and abilities is a crucial aspect. Some members of communities and schools can have entirely different starting positions and so the main goal of any mentor should be to instil a lifestyle and mental triumph. The physical benefits may dissipate over time but the education and motivation that the members find can indicate an inner will and belief that perhaps they were unaware that it existed.

What do the Move Mentors and Mentees Need?

Knowledge is perhaps the most important resource that the mentors and Mentees can acquire. In this circumstance both parties are young and lac significant experience. While the Mentee have a minor amount of prowess in the area of physical health and motivation a help from high level personnel in this field would be incredibly helpful. The course provided this in abundance with Made2Move Training in Physical Activity , Motivation and Mentoring as well as Empathy and Compassion. A number of guest speakers including past pupils of the course served well to show the long term abilities that you can acquire from the program. the extensive work from the organisers including walks and events held at the local gym (Mardyke) allowed a structured system which made successful performance easier to accomplish. The course also offered a plethora of workshops on compassion and mindset which helped to boost motivation in the members and instil a lifetime quality regarding their physical health which in my opinion is perhaps the most important goal of the program and the main responsibility of the Mentor to the Mentee. Another important resource that I as a mentee had throughout the course of this programme was my access to my lecturers, Made2Move officers as well as help from my classmate and fellow Mentors the identification that we all have the same goals meant that access to resources and the ability to acquire aid to resolve issues was easy to come across which was incredibly helpful to me and my Mentee.

Suggested Improvements to the Club?

The club was predominantly successful across the majority of fields it encompasses however the fact that it is a young concepts means that it inevitably has its restrictions. The Mentors within the club could have used more time towards the idea of the club but this was understandable due to the fact that they are members of a full time degree and so in a community concepts this may not be an issue. At times the information being conveyed in relation to the overall aims of the padlet that were assigned to the Mentors was vague and difficult to translate into the particular assignments. The program is only in its second year and through discussion with current third years who were the class assigned with the piloting of the program they outline similar issue however they can also visually identify the transparent improvements that the program has made in such a short time and I as a present member can most certainly see that trend continuing in the near future. Resources while adequate for out component which was a primarily extra curricular one-to- one activity may not be sufficient for a campus wide movement which is the overall goal and to extra time and resources are required in order to grow the club which is a concept that relates to all programmes of this sort.
