  • Spartan Women were strong, bold citizens of Sparta who had more freedom than most women during this time period. While men were at war someone had to take over the land. This resulted in them not only staying at home, cleaning, and take care of this children they also ran the country and owned land like the men.

    Our monument is a bench with swords as the legs. The swords represents the power Sparta women had when they fought along side the men with their weapons. The part you sit on represents their rest time and peace when the men return. They have less responsibilities so they stay at home because they are no longer running the land.
    How marginalized people be immortalized in monuments?
    Spartan Women and women in general should be recognized more for what we can, have, and will accomplish.

Seeing this monument dedicated to us for our bravery made us realize how much standing up for ourselves has showed hope to the future generation of women. That means a lot to my people and I.
