I knew AVID would help me with schoolwork but I never thought about the friendships I would create with others in my class. In 8th grade, I met one of my best friends, Mayar Adams. Our friendship didn't start until we met in our AVID class and we have been friends since.

How does this relate to the theme? 
This relates to the theme because it shows how people can go from strangers to knowing almost everything about each other. It is also related because it makes a statement on how programs create different types of bonds with students.

I did not know her until we began working on STUGO projects together and helping each other out. In 8th grade, we found out that we both had an AVID class together and we instantly became close friends and enjoyed talking about the most random stuff all the time. I also became close friends with Vanesa Guizar during that time. I am still friends with them till this day and I love talking to them all the time.

How does this relate to the theme?
This relates to the theme because it helps show how extracurricular activities help create bonds by helping other peers. It also shows how creating friends in extracurricular activities also creates an even stronger friendship between people in the same school programs who already know each other which can create trust.

While the team helped bring in the equipment I met Kevin Cota who I did not know. We became friends but talked very little since we did not have classes together. He was always making everyone laugh and have a good time. He was also one of the best runners on the team. In 8th grade, we both had the same Math, AVID, and English class periods and at the time I was friends with Mayar who was already his friend since before. We always laughed and had a great time during class with all of our other friends. He always had a way to lighten the mood and cheer people up. Once we all started to talk and hangout we became good friends and we all enjoyed each others company.

This relates to the theme because it shows how people become friends from something they both enjoy doing such as participating in track and field events.
