This quote is important because it shows that Pete will be able to use this money because his family really needs it. There family was already in a horrible shape before his dad got injured. His dad was waiting for a job interview outside with many other people and this guy in a Mercedes runs them all over and his dad gets badly injured. Now Pete will send 20,000 dollars to his parent anonymously by sending them $500 every month so then can pay the bills.

This chest is a symbol in the book because it represents value and danger. It represents value because Pete finds a lot of money and many Jimmy Gold books which is valuable for Pete. The money is valuable because his family is in debt and they cant pay the bills. Later on Pete will send his parents $500 every month anonymously. The book represents value because the author who wrote them was very popular and he was killed. The books was his unfinished ending of his famous Jimmy Gold character. The chest will also represent danger because Morris the person who hid the chest would come back looking for it. When Morris find out who has it Pete will have to try his best to be safe and not be caught.

Book review from Library Journal

What would you do if you found a buried treasure? Thirteen-year-old Peter Saubers asks himself this very question when he finds an old trunk buried under a tree. His family has fallen on hard times following the economic downturn in 2008. Aside from a relatively small amount of money in the chest, there are over 100 handwritten notebooks. Peter realizes that they were penned by John Rothstein, a renowned novelist who was murdered long before Peter was born. Peter was one of the millions who had been touched by Rothstein's works. Also influenced by the novels is Morris Bellamy, an obsessed fan who killed the author years ago and buried the trunk. He's in prison for a different crime, and about to be paroled. Now the protagonists King introduced in Mr. Mercedes —Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson—are charged with protecting Peter and his family from Bellamy. VERDICT King's many, many fans will want this, especially those who loved Misery , but the second volume in King's projected trilogy will appeal to anyone who enjoys suspense and action, or anyone who finds enlightenment in reading about the internal struggle between right and wrong. It's not necessary to have read the previous book to enjoy this one. [See Prepub Alert, 11/25/14.]— Elizabeth Masterson, Mecklenburg Cty.

I agree with this book review because you don't need to read the previous book to read this one. I agree because this book was amazing and it was really suspenseful. In the book Pete finds the book and it creates up suspense and you get anxious and what to know what happens next. What Pete will do with the money would he hand it over or keep the money and the books. The book is enriched with thriller and how Pete has to escape Morris.

This picture is important because it represents Mr Mercedes. It represent him because he made a huge impact on Pete's family and his life. It was a huge impact because Pete's family was already in debt and now his dad can't work because he was one of the many people who was run over by Mr Mercedes. If Pete's dad can't work he wont be able to make money and his family will be in more debt and it will be really hard for them to have a living.
