Climate change is long term shifts in weather patterns and temperature. The shifts could be natural like large volcanic eruptions and changes in the sun’s activity. Climate change also be caused by human activities. Human activities have been the main cause of climate change since the 1800’s because humans burn fossil fuels such as gas, coal, and oil. By burning fossil fuels, humans are creating greenhouse gas emissions that trap the raising temperatures and sun’s heat by acting like a blanket wrapped around Earth.

One way we can help to stop pollution is to conserve energy. Other things we can do is to cut back the use of plastic, walk, use a bike, stop burning woods and leaves, and reduce, reuse, and recycle. Another way we can stop pollution is by cutting back on driving cars. When we drive cars more, it releases a gas that is not healthy for our lungs and the planet.

There are many fantastic monitors out there, but there is one that is better than the rest. The Environmental Protection Agency’s AirNow is a mobile app that is available for you to download on a mobile device. To find the AQI in a given area, you search the zip code you want to find out. Then, a map will appear and tell you the AQI in that area and surrounding areas. This app’s information comes from direct sources around the US. You can use this app before you go outside to know if you will need your inhaler on that day.

An AQI map is divided into six categories in varying colors. Each category is assigned a color. These colors span from green, the least risk, to dark red, the highest risk. The higher the AQI number is, the higher potential of air pollution for that day. If you live in a polluted area, it would be suggested that you download an app on your phone to check the AQI for that day. These below are the colors and the numbers they are located in:
Green (good) 0-50: Air quality is considered perfect and little to no risk
Yellow (moderate) 51-100: Air quality is acceptable, but if you have asthma, you should shorten you’re time outside
Red (unhealthy) 151-200: No matter if you have asthma or not, everyone may start to have health effects such as breathing and throat irritation. If you do have asthma, you should’nt go outside to prevent any risks
Purple (very unhealthy) 201-300: This air quality would give you a health alert in your mobile device and everyone would experience more health problems. Everyone should avoid outside activities and stay inside
Dark Red (Hazardous) 301+: This air quality would also trigger a health warning. The entire population in that area would more likely be affected and everyone should avoid all physical outdoor events and activities.

Yes in fact the AQI is rising. This is because of an increase of air emissions. An example of this is during rush hour traffic. Another example is when there is an upwind forest fire or a lack of dilution air pollutants. To know whether or not the AQI is rising, you can go check an app from your phone
