In Guatemala they celebrate Christmas. Christmas is a christian celebration, celebrating Christ's birth, it is held on December 25th. During Christmas people set up holiday decorations like lights on their house, and a Christmas tree. They exchange gifts and put it under the tree, they then wait on the 24th which is called Christmas Eve, for Santa to arrive and put presents under their tree ans candy in their stockings.

They say that Santa has a Naughty and a Nice list, if you are on the Nice list then he will come to your house on the night of Christmas Eve and put gifts under the tree and candy in your stockings. But if you are on the Naughty list then he will not put gifts underneath the Christmas tree and he will put coal in your stockings.

In Guatemala they concentrate more on activities and religous practices rather than giving gifts. Most guatemalans make a nativity scene which is the showing, particularly during the Christmas season, of objects representing the birth of Jesus. Then everyone waits until midnight to light hundreds of fireworks or firecrackers to celebrate the birth of Jesus, and afterwards a family prayer is usually said. Then on Christmas Eve families celebrate together and eat the main Christmas meal. It is made of many dishes, but it always includes the tamales.
