Jen - Session 1: Focus on Recognition, culture building and establishing interventions for students who are at-risk.

Making sure posters and signs are visible in each classroom, hallway, etc. A lot of visuals so there are no excuses.

Low income families - use incentives to buy things like tickets to school sporting events, school pride wear, etc. Have seen an increase in students attending school basketball, football games bc students that couldn't afford before can now earn tickets via PBIS. School play tickets, musical, etc.

Other activities that do not require "bear bucks" - honor roll or attendance recognition (have students asking what they will be doing for honor roll and have seen students who have never gotten honor roll before working to get it for prizes) = popcorn and movie, ice cream sundae's (dairy queen gave discount or giant eagle donated honor roll cakes), spirit wear, etc. Teachers chosen students for student that raise D to C, etc.

PBIS 5k to get community involved. Fundraising for local organization - this school did breast cancer and raised $7,000 to give back. They didn't mention how they tied that in to their PBIS?

Have a community and social coordinator for their school on their PBIS team.

Link Crew Program for the school. Link crew provides younger students with older student mentors. Other schools in the session said they were using it as well, training in Chicago for Link Crew. Link Crew kids become leaders, run new student orientation, mentor, etc. Sounds like our 5th grade ambassador program but more to it. Crew members work with students that are struggling, meet with them depending on their strengths.

PBIS team looks at data often to see why most students are getting referrals and makes a plan on dealing/focus on that.

Staff PBIS newsletters!!! 3 times a year, giving them info. on what has happened last 3 months in PBIS.

Created tier 2 action plan vs. diving right in - ideas to improve upon - a lot of planning ahead into tier 2

tier 2 flowchart with links for staff to click on and get what they need

Looking for kids via data that might need more attention - high-risk kids showing up over and over on data, making sure a plan is in place for those students that keep getting referrals. Focus on ONE problem with student, what is the behavior replacement, what to do to prevent the problem behavior, how will you reinforce the good behavior for this problem student? Create a plan for these reoccurring students. What's the process to progress? Teacher lead meetings so teacher offer solutions that work for them.

Chart moves!!! Love this...child picks a photo - Spiderman or Superman -print photo and place dots around it. Student
gets to connect the dots as good behavior is completed, every 6 dots get tablet time, or whatever teacher wants. This is a system for specific behavior issues that students continue to struggle with.

Book - The Tough Kid recommended

Check in - check- out tier 2 system to create a baseline of data for that student. Ensure student get in a social skills group or academic support if needed. CICO

CICO works well for attention seeking kids. Not to be used with with high trauma kids.

CICO for behavior kids: Check in - reminder for student of their expectations, quick meeting, possible pick up of daily report sheet/behavior sheet. Discuss with student how student can be successful (ie: keep hands to yourself for a student who had issues hitting, etc) At a certain time daily student check's out and goes over daily progress - how is their report sheet, discuss, what rewards did they earn or not earn, etc. Child takes report home and parent signs. CICO. ODE website has some helpful info. on this. Books - Missouri School wide Positive Behavior Support and Responding to Problem Behavior
systems. Find out what the student is motivated by. Only write positive comments on the CICO sheets. WOW moments. Going home to parents - keep and look for the positive.

CICO location in the school, centrally located, FAST, 1-2 minutes with each CICO student. Student comes, check in, gives form/think sheet different per grade level, from previous night (staff files, record in swiss to track), what does student need to be successful today, out the door.

Tier 2 meeting every two weeks - trouble shooting, updates, same flow each time. About 25 minutes. Looking at graph/swiss data to see which students need CICO, which are improving. Students need to be meeting 80% goal with CICO and then fading intervention of tier 2 off. Don't stop cold, go into self monitoring phase and then fade out. There is a section of swiss to purchase for CICO - $340.00 per year, totally worth it.

Buddy classrooms - IE: music and art. If student is really struggling in art one day, could send down to music for a bit to get a break from their environment and then return. Buddy room across the hall or whatever room teachers decide to pair up with. Gives struggling student a small break when needed.

CICO team per grade level - 2 people one being intervention incase they run over and someone can take over for a bit or if someone is absent. Only 5% being serviced through this - only a few students per grade - does not take much time.

If a child doesn't know how to behave....we punish. :( Kids don't know - we need to teach them.

Need procedures for data tracking and decision making.

Tier 1- universal, tier 2 selected students. Must have solid tier 1 with solid data to move to tier 2. This school took 2 years of tier 1 before moving forward to tier 2.

Tier 1 meets twice a month.

Align class dojo with 3 expectations.

Classroom meetings. Staff shared doc. with lesson plans etc. of what to teach - certain aspects closer to breaks and problem areas to remind students. Weekly Blitz - problem area/data to focus on what was an issue last week and how we can do better as a class. Role play in classroom meetings.

Every week staff is updated with PBIS corner.

Poster contest with students.

Everyone uses class dojo - any class uses all the three same - be safe, respectful, responsible. Say playground is being rough - they make a point to go out and start looking for good behavior that are following those 3. Constant reminder of this is what we are looking for in those areas. EVERYONE is linked - specials, etc. so everyone can give positive dojo. Everything is tied into those 3 things - no homework under not responsible, running in hall goes under not being safe dojo. After run chart and % of positive ='s $ you get for the store. 50-59% positive = $1.00. 60-69% = $2. and so forth.

Weekly awards: golden trash can (cleanest voted by janitor), golden lunch tray (voted by cafeteria), golden bus (voted by bus drivers).

WOOT-WOOT announced over PA system too and you can hear the whole building go :woowooo.

Date drives everything they do and make sure all staff see's the data. PBIS team meets month too look out and then shares.

Dojo and referral forms should align.

Family involvement: send messages via class dojo, parent surveys, invited to assembly's, annual block party - invite parents in to just have fun (face painting, popcorn, games, etc), parent meetings and home visits.
