During this time, America had new expeditions all around the undiscovered west coast. Manifest Destiny proposed that Americans settle across North America in its entirety. Manifest Destiny caused many Americans to want to move westward and get rid of the natives.

While both economies were flourishing between the North and the South, contradicting interests in their separate economies divided the sides. Around the mid-1900s, the North had become a great power in industrialization, as the South was highly dependent on slavery due to its better farmland for agriculture. The major contrasts in these regions including state rights, slavery, and westward expansion led to the Civil War beginning in 1861.

Once the Civil War ended, a time of "Reconstruction" started to repair America's divided sides, to help heal the South, and to accept millions of formerly enslaved and now-freed African Americans into American society. Under the 13th Amendment, the Southern people were forced to make new and significant adaptations to their revolutionized economy. Although new railroads were being built across the Western and Southern parts of the US, political disputes arose and racism against the newly freed African Americans slowed the progress of Westward expansion.

The end of slavery, immigration, and new advances in technology resulted in the urbanization of the American South and West greatly because the South wouldn't have looked into technologically developing their economy. After all, it was already thriving as it was.

This supports my thesis because it shows the South didn't like the path that it seemed the US was going to take, which relates to my thesis. After all, they didn't agree with Lincoln's actions/opinions on slavery.

The Election supports my thesis because he was a man for the North, and very controversial to the South due to his opinions on slavery. This election led to immediate rebellion and clearly shows how divided the sides were.

This relates to my thesis because the South were relentless in their actions towards fighting for slavery. Slavery is gravely wrong, however, you must give them credit for them fighting back and being determined for what they thought was right.

This book supports my thesis because Jefferson Davis apologizes for his actions that caused the Civil War. This shows it took time for most Southerners to realize what they were doing was unjust.
