Ben is being picked up by the resident tour guide to show Ben around the surreal lands tainted by natural disaster, El Salvador. Ben notices that it is different to California and perceives this as a unpleasant occurrence. Even so, Ben is still here to help the El Salvadorians rebuild for the better future.

In Ben's mind, Sr. Salinas is a bit loony and San Salvador is a strange place. On the tour, he sees many four-laned freeways and highways as well as street vendors selling foods, clothes, CDs, and other peculiar things. He also notices that really it's hot because of El Salvador's placement near the coast. Off the road, there are plantain stalks, coffee bean plants and a strange purple flower. However, Ben doesn't care for foods he doesn't recognise. He jumps back on the bus, and starts missing American food like Mc. Donalds. He can only get this food in San Salvador. He informs Ben he is staying with the Zamora family, where they live two hours from San Salvador in San Vicente. The earthquake destroyed many homes, buildings, churches, and towns. Juan informs Ben that they needed immediate medical attention, and that there is a lot to do in El Salvador for rebuilding. Juan Salinas tells Ben that he is very happy to have young people come all the way to El Salvador to help.
