The aristocrats. They live closest to the city, had the most fertile land, and are therefore more well protected. 

They possessed copious amounts of money. 

The artistoi often held political positions and had political power.

This class was poorer than the Aristoi .

These were the people who owned land but their land wasn't as prosperous.

Perioikoi lived away from cities and huddled up with other perioikoi into small villages.

This is the business class. (Manufacturing, trade, commerce)

The artistoi held privileges primarily for people with land.

The middle class could still fluctuate throughout the classes by either attaining wealth or completely losing wealth.

 Women had a lot of restraints: no voting, no owning land, no talking to other males besides their husband. 

They primarily cared for the children, weaved, and did wool-work

Women would basically be owned by either a husband or a male family relative who had to watch over her. 

However, Spartan women could drink wine, participate in physical training, and own land.

Other women worked as prostitutes.

1. Look at the top left corner where it says "My Notes". Click on it and rename it "FirstName LastName Notes
2. Green Post - Beneath the title of the article, create a sentence that explains the purpose of the article. "On Greek Society" has already been done for you as a sample. You will create your own for "Classical Women in Greece." 
3. Yellow Post - The "topics" are all given to you. Within each post, create at least three bullet points that paraphrases important information from the text. The "Artistoi" has already been done for you as an example. 
4. **Important** When you are done, be sure to go back to google classrooms to read the instructions on how to submit your padlet notes.

To create more space, simply click on a post and drag it to the edge of the screen. This expands the space and gives you more room to work with. 

To connect ideas, "right click" (tap the mouse pad with two fingers on Chromebook) any post and select "Connect to the Post". If you want to disconnect something, click on "Disconnect from a post." 

To create a new post, click on the "+" sign at the bottom right corner of the screen.

To make a post bigger, click on it and then drag the jagged edges out to whatever size you want. 

To change the color of a post, "right click" any post. The color options are available at the top of the mini menu. 

To format anything, highlight a text in the post. This should prompt the format menu where you can bold, italicize, highlight, link, and create bullet points. 

Remember these shortcuts: ctrl+b is to bold, ctrl+i is to italicize, ctrl+c is to copy, and ctrl+v is to paste.

Slaves were common. They were bought, stolen, and traded

People tried to prove slaves were inferior to their race to make their dominance justifiable

Like slavery anywhere else, these unfortunate slaves were treated abusively with floggings and torment.

Slaves could buy their freedom or even earn their freedom by serving in the military.

People who had moved from other countries, bringing with them many skills. These people were known as xenoi and were below the regular citizens.

They had to register their residence, pay taxes, pay additional taxes, and show loyalty. 

Once they proved enough loyalty they could become full-fledged citizens.

Laborers were semi-free workers.

They would work for a trade or compromise with the owner of the land. 

They weren't anyone's "property" and couldn't be sold as slaves could.

However, Laborers did get treated brutally at times, and were often forced to serve in the military

Young women are supposed to learn the principles of running a household.

They learn to weave, and spin thread.

They can go to certain sanctuaries and attend speeches but they must be covered up. 

Woman are supposed to visit the graves of family.

Women were included in some ceremonies and other ceremonies were even reserved for women. 

Thesmophorian, the Haloa, and the Skira are some ceremonies that were reserved for women because they emphasized the positions of women. 

Young girls (aged 5-puberty) were chosen to serve Artemis and many ceremonies for young girls influenced their beliefs and values as women.

Girls were primarily brought up to marry.

Girls would be married off by the age of 14-15.

Marriage became a girl's identity. A girl was known as a kore until she consummated her marriage. After that she was known as a nymphe until the birth of her baby. After that, she became a gyne and only lived to about 40.

Even though they were socially restrained, they had many female goddesses and role-models. 

Many of those goddesses seemed independent and powerful.

Those goddesses were adored by both men and women.
