Task 1

• Research the meaning of the word activism.
1.The use of diract and noticeable action to achieve a result, usually a political or social one.
2. The use of direct and public methods to try to bring about social and political changes that you and others want.

• Write a definition of activism in your own words (do not copy directly from a dictionary) that covers all possible meanings (add a bibliographical reference - Harvard style)
A policy of taking direct and militant action to achieve a political or social goal and express dissatisfaction with the social.

• Research the meaning of art activism.
The use of art action to achieve a result.

• Write a definition of art activism in your own words (do not copy directly from a dictionary) that covers all possible meanings (add a bibliographical reference - Harvard style)
Art activism means ues some artistic means to express ideas and shock the public, some artists do some militant things such as designing posters, drawing pictures and other art projects in order to tell the public some important arguments, this is often an important part of activism.

Task 2
Amoako Boafo
Boafo made his stunning auction debut at Phillips in London and sold his portrait The Lemon Bathing Suit for £675,000. This work is very stylized and expresses his bold brushwork and bright colors, in this way, his unique style became specific pattern and also attracted some institutions’ attention, many museums such as The Guggenheim Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Vienna’s Albertina Museum scramble to buy his art work. Boafo insisted on his creation and his most ambitious project will be born, a gallery and studio complex in his hometown Accra. As in his work called Black Diaspora series, these portraits challenge the flat, simplified nature of blackness and celebrate his fellow blacks with a quiet intimacy. He said painting was a means to avoid trouble or a beating, and his artistic core became less inspired and more driven.

Banksy
Banksy gifted his painting to a hospital in the Britain and donated the money to the hospital for the health service during the first wave of COVID-19 in the summer, and also in this summer he donated for a hospital in Bethlehem about the proceeds from an auction of a Mediterranean Sea view. Later in the summer, Banksy 's started to notice the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean and financed the refugee rescue boat. By auctioning off his works, he donated money to hospitals for aid, also in order to help Mediterranean migrants in need. He drew a panda humorously satirizes racism, and consider that the hero who can hit racial discrimination is panda because he is black, he is white, he is Asia.

Betye Saar
In 2020, now-94-year-old artist Saar showed all of her works on display including sketchbooks and paintings, this showed the public about the flurry of first for the long-overlooked artist. Her work consistently addresses issues of race, gender, and spirituality, her work called her work called National Racism: We Was Mostly 'Bout Survival' Saar was also named the recipient of the 2020 Wolfgang Hahn Prize and her work is the subject of a documentary short, Betye Saar: Taking Care of Business, and this eight-minute film also achieved attention at this year’s Sundance and was selected as a New York Times op-doc. Saar’s ABCD Education (2001) was sold at a Sotheby’s day sale, even achieved a new auction record for the artist, selling for $81,900, in November. Her work named black girls’ window, she has already said the girl in the bottom half of the painting is me with my hands against the glass, with different astrology symbols on each hand what my life will be on one hand, and what it actually looks like on the other that's the black girl window, about life, about death.

bibliography
Artsy.2021.The Most Influential Artists of 2020.

The first art work I would like to introduce about it is Amoako Boafo’s work named Black Diaspora series, he simplified blackness that celebrates his fellow blacks with a quiet sense of kinship, and I choose one of them to talk about. In this picture, I can see a black boy wears yellow and site in front of a yellow wall, maybe he is ready to have a meal or afternoon tea, it looks like everyone’s daily life. I think Boafo want to use this way to tell the public that there are not many differences between different races, it is just a painting work with brushwork and simple but bright colors, also Boafo is a black man. It can not only tell us the contents about the field of art but also depicts the performance of black people’s daily life.

And the next artist is Banksy who is a thorn in the side of police around the world, he created plenty of activism works and became the legend of street art, but I just want to talk about one of his works which is a graffiti on a white wall, it is a panda holds two guns in both hands, it looks funny and cute but it also satires racial discrimination as he said he is black, he is white, he is Visa, panda the hero who can hit this discrimination. And this interesting graffiti was also a weapon to resist such too many inequity treat.

The last one I want to describe is Betye Saar’s work black girls’ window, I can easily see a black girl is looking at the scenery outside the window, all the part of her body is all just black except eyes. The left eye is as same as others and the right one is very strange. Behind her is dark blue sky and yellow translucent curtain. It is a work of illustration and she has already said the girl of the illustration is herself with hands against the glass, it shows the harm to black people by racial discrimination and makes the public realize how foolish the discrimination is.

Activism project progress tasks

Task 1
The most concerned topics are action for black students, cultural matters, further education closure and Rochester closure. The activism issues in these are action for black students and cultural matters. About the first topic, because of the global protests against racism and police brutality they come up with this idea and inspire the other people to join them in order to improve black students’ lives. These students also encourage more black students which are racially discriminated against to share their experiences and let other students to know more about it. And the other union is cultural matters, the aim of it is to reduce the disrespect and discrimination against culture. The way to support their campaign is wearing some stickers which are printed shut down hate and it’s not OK if it’s not consensual to cut down those incorrect things, and the page lists the things which are not OK. Both of the two hot issues are interactive as they urge students to comment and state their views.

Task 2
The social issue which l show an interested in is gender inequality after knowing more about Guerrilla Girls, I found that there are indeed fewer famous female artists than men, and many art work shows the nude of women and achieves plenty of attention by the public. As I know, there are still many nations the status of females are much lower than males, it is clearly an unfair and confusing situation. Many women don't earn as much as men in the workplace. Even in the interview, many females are not admitted just because of they can get pregnancy in the future so that will have a piece of time to rest. That is such a funny reason, it depends on physiological character instead of the cause of gender inequality. In these days, an increasing number of people support feminist in order to keep a balance between female and male. And LGBT right and freedom of speech also interest me, it is an interesting national issue, and to be honest the former type of conversations are seldom be talked about in China, about LGBT right, I know the mare is the rainbow flag. I am very willing to learn more about it during this project.

Task 3
I like the bespoke studios and library in Farnham, I am now looking forwards to visiting it in the UK. About my activism project, I want to design two uncommon posters with the other students. Most of people may feel confused about it, I would explain about how to finish activism posters with others. First, I should simply make a background design for the poster with different styles of men and women as I want to create art work concerning gender inequality, and write the total ”What can females do? ” and ”What can males do?” . In my idea next step is to pose these on a wall, if possible I want to stick the two poster on the wall at the entrance of the library in Farnham, and broadcast these activity. If the students show an interested in this and write their opinions on the posters, this is also the most important step to collect the public thinkings. finally let’s move on the last step of this work, I need to read and compare what they write on the two posters, then summarize whether there is such a big distinction between men and women which can lead to gender discrimination. My personal consideration is if the result shows the distinction between genders is very small and whether the things can be done has no connation with gender, how foolish gender inequality is!
