Caption: In Act 1; scene 4, Mercutio makes fun of Romeo and his belief that his dreams are meaningful. Mercutio believes nothing of this and responds “dreamers often lie.” The caption I chose reinforces Mercutio’s thoughts on dreams while still adding a sense of humor to cheer Romeo up as you read in the play.
Location: The chosen location is a place Mercutio would travel because of his clown like personality.
Video: I choses this video because during the beginning of the play Mercutio displays a more light-hearted humor. Unlike towards the end of the play. This video represents him and his emotions, hence the bright colors which relates to his loud personality. In act 1; scene 4, Mercutio says “Give me a case to put my visage in.” This joke directly ties to him and henceforth me choosing this video.
Filter: There is no filter on the picture because Mercutio walks through life with a certain mentality. This mentality is very straight forward he walks through life with no added hope. It is what it is, and that’s what he believes. Act 1; scene 4, proves that when Mercutio announces to Romeo “dreamers often lie.”

Textual evidence: "Tybalt, you rat-catcher, will you walk?"
Caption: In the prologue of Romeo and Juliet, the Prince announces that “Once more, on pain of death, all men depart.” This means that if there are any other battles in the courtyard they will be punished with death. In act 3, Mercutio engages in a battle with Tyablt resulting in Mercutio’s death. So this caption relates because of the rules that they broke.
Location: Mercutio would travel to Laguna beach, CA because of how bright it is.

Video: I choose this video because it shows the rules that are being broken and why it adds to Mercutio’s character. In act 3; scene 1, Mercutio instigates a fight resulting in the two of them breaking the rules the Prince set in place. Mercution says, “Tybalt, you rat-catcher, will you walk?”

Caption: I choose this caption because in Act 2; scene 4, Mercutio makes fun of the nurse calling her a sail. Which translates too fat, hence the caption of the nurses doppelgänger relating to the bird. In Act 3; scene 1, you can see the harsher side of Mercutio, “...and by the operation of the second cup draws it on the drawer, when indeed there is no need.”
Location: Mercutio would travel to Santa Monica because of the overcast weather, and the weather symbolizes the change in Mercutio’s character.
Video: I chose this video for Mercutio because not only does it relate to when Mercutio made fun of the nurse, it is also because of the weather. At this point of the play, Mercutio’s personality becomes darker and his jokes become more hurtful. Throughout the play Mercutio becomes more serious and takes on a darker mood and at this point of the play you can really see the change. The dark, overcast weather is what can be seen as Mercutio’s personality at this point in the play. This mainly occurs in Act 3; scene 1, in which Mercution says “By my heel, I care not.”

The other man in this meme is playing the role of Romeo saying “are u really hurt?” Mercutio wouldn’t find this meme funny he would find it relatable. In act 3; scene 1, Mercutio says these words and also tells Romeo to “fetch a surgeon.”

1.loyalty by Kendrick lamar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkepEVd2LvU
I chose this song to represent Mercutios loyalty to Romeo. Throughout the play Mercutio can be characterized as loyal because of his relationship with Romeo. The lyrics “loyalty, loyalty, loyalty,” can directly relate to the characterization of Mercutio towards the middle of the play before his death. In act 3; scene 1, Mercutio states “But i’ll be hanged, sir, if he wear your livery.” In this, Mercutio draws the attention away from Romeo and keeps Tybalt focusing on him. Because of this, Tybalt fights Mercutio not Romeo (at first) and this helps the readers characterize Mercutio.
2. if i die young- the band perry
I chose this song to represent Mercutio because it shows what happened to him during the play, for he died young. This songs also shows the darker and deeper side of Mercutio. Towards the end of the play Mercutio becomes darker, his personality and his jokes. The darkness of this song is tied to the quote, “They have made worms’ meat of me...” When Mercutio is dying he yells this cursing both houses because of his death.
https://youtu.be/Aw8W6hYGZ0E
3. forget you by ceelo green
In act 3; scene 1, after Tybalt stabs Mercutio, Mercutio tried to get help yet everyone makes fun of him. At the end of his life, his last words, he curses Romeo saying “And soundly too: your houses!” This songs portrays what Mercutio is feeling towards Romeo at the time and wants too “forget you.”
https://youtu.be/PPkrEL_GuW8
4. Rude by magic
Mercutio towards the middle of the play becomes more upset and his jokes get a little meaner and harsh. He can be interpreted as rude. This song is characterizing him. In act 3; scene 1, Mercutio is frustrated and upset with everyone for not taking him seriously when he is hurt. “Why the devil came you between us?” This quote shows the harshness he has towards Romeo and ends up cursing him because of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZRXphm8vWs
5. young wild and free by snoop dog
I chose this song to represent Mercutio because of the beginning of the play. He is young, wild, and free. He lives his life sneaking his friends into Capulets party’s and telling jokes to all of his friends. That’s what this song is trying to say, live your life. In act 1; scene 4, Mercutio messes with Romeo again saying “Nay gentle Romeo, we must have you dance.” Which is forcing Romeo to live his life.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeARCa4waYo
6. party by chris brown
This song was chosen to desplay Mercutio’s life. He belongs to neither family and has relations to Prince Escalus allowing him to live a “party” lifestyle. Which is why I chose this song to demonstrate how Mercutio walks the streets of Verona. “If love be rough with you, be rough with love...” in this it shows another one of Mercutio’s joke when he was more light-hearted.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wrulr_NWaFI
7. walk it talk it by migos
This song was picked because during the beginning of the play it is the mentality that Mercutio had, and that is “walk it talk it.” Throughout Act 1; scene 4, Mercutio walks through the streets of Verona, on his way to the Capulets party, he walks with this mentality. “True I talk of dreams...”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u62-823GF4U
8. You have a friend in me -Toy Story
Towards the end of the play Mercutio becomes colder but at the beginning he is nicer in a way where his jokes are kinder. He is a true friend of Romeo and the majority of Act 1;scene 4, is Mercurio joking with Romeo trying to cheer him up. “You are a lover, borrow cupid’s wings...”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcXURC_nNhc
9. mad world by Taylor john Williams
Act 3; scene 1, is why this song relates to Mercutio. Throughout the play his humor becomes darker and more serious in which he can be portrayed as rude. This song is talking about how messed up the world is in his eyes and this relates to Mercutio’s views on the feud and Romeo when he is dying. He says these words in Act 3; scene 1, “A plague o’ both your houses!”
https://youtu.be/qYXGwHQuWRM
10. selfish by Pnb rock
This song is descriptive of Mercutio because he can sometimes be portrayed as selfish. His humor sometimes comes off as selfish for he thinks of himself often. In act 1; scene 4, you see him again making a joke, “Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down.”
https://youtu.be/B7RpTCO1qhw

Tweet: I choose this tweet because of the jokes, rude comments he says to the nurse in Act 2; scene 1. Mercutio calls the nurse a sail hinting about her being overweight. If Mercutio’s friends (mostly montaques) saw his tweet they would vote for the nurse because of the joke he made. Mercutio at this point of the play is clouded by him being now characterized as dark and in Act 3; scene 1, it shows that. Benvolio tried to talk Mercutio down by foreshadowing. Benvolio says, “For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring.”
hashtags: Mercutio wouldn’t use hashtags at this moment because he wasn’t the focus to be on him maintenance fun of the nurse nothing else as he says in Act 3; scene 1, “Thou art like one of those fellows that when he enters the confines of a tavern claps his sword upon the table...”

When Romeo falls in love with Juliet, Mercutio wouldn’t believe that it’s true love because he doesn’t believe in love. This meme shows this emotion from Mercutio because of what he says about dreams in Act 1; scene 4. “Begot of nothing but vain fantasy.” This is how Mercutio feels about love so he would find this meme funny because he believes it to be true.
