Today, autism is not that rare to see. There are more than 200,000 cases of autism per year. Back in 1934, people thought that people with autism should be locked away in a mental hospital. Life was probably harder for Natalie, because there were little to no schools that were just for children with autism. Megan has more support and opportunities than Natalie did, because autism is socially acceptable today.

In the 1930's people did not know how to react to people with autism and most people did not even know how to diagnose it but now people understand and accept people with autism and there are much more ways to help them. In Al Capone Moose's family was scared to tell certain people on the island that Natalie had a personality disorder because they weren't sure if people would react in a mean or hatred way. Meghan's family on the other hand made a video about her and her story and quit their jobs so they could move closer to the school they wanted Natalie to attend.

Autism today is much more accepted then it was in the 1920s and 1930's. People today with autism are often more included because they have more resources to use. In the 1920's and 30's many of the people with autism wouldn't be accepted into schools because the teachers didn't want to have to work with them and they didn't have the proper care. Today doctors know more about autism and how to treat it then they did back then. The kids with autism today can go to schools that have special care for them but before they would just decline the application. Now there are more chances for children with autism.

But Meghan got help when she was 2 and when it was easier to teach her right from wrong. Also people didn't except people that had autism back then like they do now so maghan got alot more advantages that natalie didnt have.

There is so much more help that a autistic person can now then they could 80 years ago. Schools have special programs for children with autism. They teach them in a way that they can learn easily.
