Common law is a set of laws that are derived from the customs and principles of the society that are employed in court case decision in instances where the civil law statutes do not cover such a law. It is worth noting that such decisions by judges set the precedent that must be applied for cases that will be handled thereafter.   Therefore, majority of the rulings that are made in the common law system depend on the decisions that were reached on similar cases.
On the other hand statutory laws heavily rely on the legislative process whereby laws and ordinances are developed and then voted by a certain group of people that represent the larger majority of the populace. In states that have adopted common law, murder is regarded as a homicide committed with a malicious a foresight. The case is under the statutory law since murder is codified and the United States of America constitution and the judge did not use any similar past case to decide  the case of O. OJ Simpson's murder case is one of the cases that have had twist when it was clear from the outset that the prosecution was going to win. However, racial discrimination which was manifested in the Los Angels Police Department in brutality against African Americans was used as the defense by Cochran's legal team. The case was governed by statutory law since criminal law has been codified and it is written in the USA constitution.

The elements of the case against OJ Simpson was the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her alleged boyfriend, Ron Goldman. There were more than 5 pieces of evidence that were presented before court to convict O.J. Simpson of murder that includes blood drops, matching gloves, crime scene hairs and fibers, bloody shoes prints, bloody socks and a knife which were enough to proof beyond reasonable doubt that OJ Simpson had murdered the two.
 Bloody drops were detected at the gate of the murder scene that happened to be near bloody shoe prints of the crime scene too.  The prosecution team claimed that the drops had OJ Simpson’s genetic marks . During an interview with the police, he was photographed having a cut on his finger.  Additionally, there was a matching glove of the extra Aris leather type on the scene of the murder near the two bodies that was similar to another one that was found on Simpson’s compound. What is more surprising is that matching glove had blood that contained the genetic markers of Simpson with that of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman’s blood.
