Does the amount of sleep improve students mood ?
Experimental Unit: 30 students from boulder creek high school
Selection Method: give each student at Boulder Creek a random number and use a random number generator to choose who will participate
Treatments: 9 hours of sleep vs 6 hours of sleep
Explanatory Variable: The amount of sleep each student gets
Control Group: Students with 9 hours of sleep
Response Variable: Students give themselves a self rating on their mood from 1-10
Lurking Variables:
1. If they ate breakfast or not.
2. If they have any homework
3. If they have any test
This experiment will not be blind or double blind because everybody knows how much sleep they are getting.
Type of experiment: Crossover I will have both groups try both variables for 3 days each and see how they feel after.
Sample Size : 30 students Margin of Error: 18.26%
Replication: Repeat this experiment with a different group of students however many times as desired
Results of experiment: Rating 9 hours of sleep 1- 8 29 3- 8.5
6 hours of sleep-
1-7 2-6.4 3- 7.2
Statistical significance: In this experiment it is seen that the people will more sleep were in overall better moods for the day.
Finances - This experiment is very cost efficient as it does not cost any money unless you would like to pay the people for altering their sleep cycle.
Final outcome: In this experiment, it is shown that the people who obtained more sleep were in a better mood. This shows that overall, sleep time does alter the effects of a person's mood.
