At first Persephone hated the underworld, but grew to love it and Hades. Demeter was distraught at her daughters kidnapping and made it impossible for any crops to grow on earth. People tried to convince Demeter that Persephone was happy and to let the crops grow again, but she wouldn't let anything grow until Persephone returned. Persephone knew to eat nothing because she would be forced to stay in the underworld, but one day was so hungry ate six pomegranate seeds. Zeus had a meeting with all the gods and made a deal with Hades and Demeter.
