Hello, I’m Romnick Escobal! I really enjoy Philippine pop culture, especially OPM music that shows off Filipino talent, and TV shows like Batang Quiapo with their exciting stories. I’m also a fan of Filipino movies that capture our values and history in unique ways. Colorful festivals like Sinulog are amazing, with their lively dances that celebrate our culture. Finally, I’m interested in Philippine mythology, with creatures like the aswang and tikbalang that make our folklore so unique.

I would like to feature OPM (Original Pilipino Music). OPM includes many types of music, from love songs to rock, pop, and hip-hop, showing the variety of Filipino tastes and emotions. Talented singers, songwriters, and bands make songs that touch people deeply, often talking about love, family, strength, and pride in being Filipino. Whether it's classic hits from artists like Eraserheads and Freddie Aguilar or new P-pop music, OPM keeps growing and brings joy to Filipinos around the world.

Uses and Gratifications Theory

To understand OPM (Original Pilipino Music) and its influence, I’ll apply the Uses and Gratifications Theory, which examines why people choose specific media to meet their needs. OPM fulfills many needs for Filipinos by providing songs that express their emotions about love, sadness, and happiness. The music is relatable, offering comfort and connection as it often discusses common Filipino experiences, such as family and resilience. For example, Freddie Aguilar’s Anak talks about family relationships in a way that feels meaningful and familiar to listeners. Through OPM, people feel that their own emotions and experiences are understood, which gives them a sense of belonging.

On a broader scale, OPM also raises awareness about social issues and fosters pride in being Filipino. Some songs address challenges in society, such as poverty or inequality, as seen in Gloc-9’s music, which helps people think about these problems. At the same time, OPM helps spread Filipino identity and culture to others.
