Some theorize she drowned her children out of love, fear, or anger. One story says that she killed her children out of anger to protect them from a band of Native Americans. When the band came to the lake, they found her giving a deafening scream, scaring them away. She might have survived, but she is said to still haunt the lake.

When she got to heaven, she couldn’t find her children and God “doomed” her to wander the Earth forever, searching for her kids.
