Similarities:
The tone of the movie and book are the same. It makes us pity August for his problem. Although we don't get to see his face, R.J Palacio tells us with her tone that it is extremely bad because he didn't go to school, had multiple surgeries and challenges us to imagine his face.

The movie used the same idiom from the book 'like lamb to the slaughter". The antagonist is the same in both the book and the movie.

The antagonist isn't Julian or Jack, it's August's face. August's face was the thing that caused his troubles. It caused the conflict between August and other people.

The point of View was the same in the book and movie. August is the narrator in the movie and there were multiple Points of View in both pieces of literature.

We could tell that the genre is the same because most movies have a protagonist with problems who go on an adventure to stop the problem. The movie and book is no different.

Differences:
Instead of hiding his face from US (the readers) he says its OK to look at him. The book, like mentioned before, didn't show us. In the movie, there wasn't any aspect of hiding it besides the astronaut helmet which is in both).

The book mentioned Zach, Alex and Christopher. August's past best friends. However, there was no mention of them in the movie. This didn't give us the same foreshadowing of sadness August would've felt when losing his friends.

The book stated that August's mum was wondering about school at Christopher's whereas in the movie she talked about in her own house. The foreshadowing given in the movie wasn't the same as the book where it was much more secretive.

Similarities: Auggie's point of view and mood are the same.
He's also ashamed of his face. This also tells us that he doesn't want to go to school as everyone can relate to that.
The movies is the same as the book due to the idioms used in both the same conversation: ''Taking a lamb to a slaughter.''
The Tone is also the same as RJ Palacio challenges us to imagine his face and his life as the book states: Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.
Other similarities is that Auggie in book and movie used the same SIMPLE sentences:
I like: ''I eat ice cream''

Differences: Auggie is okay of us looking at his face in the movie yet in the book, he wouldn't tell us about his face.
The movie didn't state that he was sad that all his friends had moved.
This means that they never existed and only had his family.
The book also never stated having star wars fights and driving Via crazy thus allows me to assume that he has complete respect and maturity to his parents.
Foreshadowing isn't used very often. For this reason, I can assume that August isn't giving anyone a hint to his face.
Auggie did not state in the book that he liked sport on his Xbox allowing me to assume he was SUPER embarrassed about his
exterior, not his ordinary interior.

Differences:
The movie seemed more straight forward than the book, mainly because there is a voice explaining their life, like a storyteller, opening into someone else's life. The story felt more realistic, with an actual appearance to notice his personality. Rather in the book, you can't tell his persona traits if he is being straight forward, or if he is just finishing his sentences quickly, not wanting to talk. The book didn't seem to have much life in it, whilst the movie showed his personal life in a way his bedroom is decorated, or how he dresses.

In the book, it shows neither. With Auggie's voice, it sounds like actual murmurs, knowing what he sounds like. Through the murmurs we can tell Auggie's intentions, example;
Perhaps not wanting to socialize with people.
In the story, it doesn't say
"I'm wearing an astronaut helmet" or "I like astronomy", with an actual animation, we can basically tell what he is like without explaining many things.

Noticeably in the movie, it doesn't explain everything unlike in the opening page of Auggie's perspective. With Auggie's perspective in the book, we can only know what Auggie writes down, not everything, because Auggie didn't notice it himself. While in the movie, we hear everything, not just August's thoughts.

Despite it only being a character's perspective in a movie with sections, it still shows other people's perspective a bit more since it isn't as much as a diary entry.

August's old friends, since there isn't any flashbacks, just a present perspective, like said, not a diary entry.

Mostly, the book and movie explain scenes much differently. The book would provide 'Paint a picture in the person's mind!", whereas the Movie gives a much more visual look.

The book doesn't show any background characters, since August doesn't know those people, but the movie would show them, since it is visual.

Similarites:
Both the book and movie has similar quotes,

"I play ball"
"I eat ice cream"
etc

Auggie still has the same intentions in both the book and movie. In perspective, both show clearly, the character's role in the story, a protagonist, antagonist or a supporting character.

Differences & Similarities:
Page 3-14: Firstly, the lines are in the first few minutes in the movie. Except for the line "But I know ordinary kids don't make other kids scream in playgrounds." that line is said after August(Jacob Tremblay) explains about his family, his broth and his love of Star Wars.

In the Movie, they cut out some important lines. Or some lines from the book. As an example, "if I had a magic lamp, if I had one wish...I'd wish I had a normal face that no one would notice at all."

August used a simile.

While I think that line was replaced with "I've had 20 surgeries. They've helped to to see, eat breath - but none of them had made me look ordinary."

Another line I remember is "next week, I start fifth grade, since I;ve never been to a real school before, I'm pretty much totally and completely petrified." that line is the same as the movie and book.

The beginning of the movie explains "I can't homeschool him forever!"
August in the book explains in a simple line: Mom homeschools me.

Another difference is he explains his old friendships, which meant he was capable of making friends in the book, meanwhile in the movie he seemed insecure. I guess August's olds friends(Alex, Zachary and Christopher) were used to him. In the movie it doesn't explain his old friendships.
---
On page 6, it explains how Auggie's birth was hilarious in ways and how it'd crack him up everytime his mum talked about it. Also Via.
Within the very first minutes of the movie it explains the birth.
This is out of order. It's difference sequence compared to the book. They(Stephen Chbosky, Director & 20th Century FOX studios) wanted to open up how Auggie really is different.
In the book, page 8-14, they talk about Auggie's school in a car, rather than at home, like they did in the film.

They explain about the IQ test. The Principal's name. Yet, the last line of page 14 which made me think "Who's Mr Tushman?" Via asked, groggily. She just woke up.
"The new Principal at my new school," I answered.

Did Auggie actually accept the fact about his new school? Haha, Foreshadowing. The classic, this line confirms - but briefly- confirms that Auggie shall accept his new school.

[The thing about the book and film is that they both won Award/s. The book won many awards, I'll just pull one out. 10 Great Kids' Books

Similarities: His mood in the beginning was quiet and when he went to school the first place he
was still quiet.

These moods are comparing with the idea of similarities and differences I see those two words by thinking about the moods.

Differences: Like I said he was quiet at the first place but when he made friends and stayed a bit longer at school Auggie is getting used to the place and his friends so he started to change and not to care too much about his face because he got the hang of staying there until it is hometime where he had to go home so Auggie moods change from quiet to speak out. The movie still makes the audience feel sympathetic to auggie, however, a chunk of important details are missing from the book, like via's protective nature around auggie, his history with Christopher, Zachary and Alex. Even the chapter when auggie retells his birth is more detailed than the film. The movie zooms past all of auggies past, instead, focusing on his school and current life.

The book and movie both start off with Auggie narrating about how he believes how he's really like everybody else and does similar things to everyone else. Except, the movie doesn't actually have as much details as the book, in the book includes things such as his love for Star Wars, his surgeries, his struggles in his everyday life, birth etc. Instead, in the book, it's just a few different scenes which last a few seconds of those different things. The book got into much more detail however the movie is more straight forward. Auggie's mood and point of view are really just the same in the book and movie. The movie makes the audience/readers feel really sympathetic for him but it misses really important details that helps make the readers feel more sympathetic for Auggie and helps the readers understand why things are like what they are. An example is Auggie's old best friends and his history with friendships with Christopher, Alex and Zachary. He's still friends with Christopher but they live far away from each other and they rarely see each other like before. He has slowly drifted away from Alex and Zachary. The book also made you visualise it yourself and doesn't really show you background information like what Auggie's bedroom looks, what Julian, Amos and Miles look like; what they visually did to Auggie; in that case the movie actually has more details.

Similarities:
The book and movie both start of with I know i'm not an ordinary 10 year old kid and that he does ordinary things like eat ice-cream, riding his bike, playing sport or having an Xbox

Differences:
The beginning is much shorter than the one in the book. When August was in the car, in the book they then said Lamb to Slaughter but in the movie they are in their bedroom when the father says it. That difference is called setting.
