I think English can keep its dominant position in the future since English has a high hierarchical level in linguistic system. English is a kind of linguistic capital for more jobs and academic opportunities so it has a great motivation for the younger generation to learn English. Currently, Chinese is compulsory to learn English at school and I think in the next decade majority of the younger generation in China would equip a basic level of English skills. In my opinion, when the average English level of Chinese citizens is lifted, the large Chinese corporations would be willing to maintain English's current position and they don't have the motivation to replace English with Chinese as a global language.

On the one hand, teachers should enable students to learn and understand more foreign culture and history, and to experience the exotic customs, so as to enhance their awareness and ability of cross-cultural communication.

I think English education in China has long way to go. Because English is a language, not just an exam. But in China, Firstly, the English teachers teach the knowledge are mainly for student to pass the exam. For example, they will teach the skills to the English exam. These are in contrast with the purpose of the language. Secondly, most of the Chinese Families think that the English just a part of the exam. So they are the same with most of the English teachers in China to let their children to chase for the high score in English. Basic on the above of the two points, most of the students in China are paying more attention in exams and high score. Therefore, English education in China hasn't been studied as an language.

That is one of the important reason why our English teaching is examination orient . In order to learn a foreign language to recognize the foreign culture is helpful. In our teaching we may help student express what do they want to say first so i think fluency is most important then follow up we consider about grammar and pronunciation and vocabulary diversity to make it more accuracy and flexible finally let the student can speak English proficiency.

Under this circumstances, although CLT can improve their English skills in all aspects, it will waste more time, and time is the most valuable for Chinese students. As a result, CLT principles are not suit for Chinese students.

As for learning a language, I think it’s always helpful. Different languages have their own ways of thinking or their own beliefs. Once you learn a new language, you learn a new way of thinking and accept a new belief. It can enrich your thoughts and broaden your horizon.

Being able to speak another language means you can communicate with people far away from you. So you can learn the knowledge of others and even do business with them. Language is a tool, not only for communication, but also for other things. People speaking different languages have different potential beliefs and cultures. Once you learn a new language, you are likely to see or think a thing from a different angel. It helps you know it more completely. When it comes to disadvantages, maybe it will cost you lots of time and energy. Also, it may be boring when you try to remember new words.

In China, we always have many students in one class while I have much less classmates now. Teachers can know how students learn more clearly here. In China, we always listen when the teacher is talking. It’s impolite to interrupt. However, we can talk easily when we have the answer or have a different opinion. In China, education is always exam oriented. For example, we seldom practice English speaking while we concentrate on listening, reading and writing.

I agree with the conclusion. In China, almost everyone knows the importance of English. Thus, English is an important subject at school. Children start to learn English even before they go to kindergarten nowadays. In society, people who can speak English can always get a better job and get a higher salary. So, with economic globalization, English is becoming a tool to get a good job and to do business with foreign countries. However, English education in China is exam oriented. We don’t have much chance to practice our oral English. So we need to pay more attention on it. People who can speak English can view things in a new way, so they can have fresh ideas. At the same time, with the development of China, Chinese is becoming more and more popular in the world.

Obviously, most of students learn English for passing the test, they do not need to have their own thinking about English in China. And one of the reasons is that English teachers teach the English to the students, which is also for them to pass the exam. Therefore, this kind of ways is definitely examination-oriented leaning.

I will use the method of collecting data from database and questionnaire. We will find that the number of candidates registered for ielts and toefl in China is increasing significantly year by year. In addition to the increase in the number of students going abroad, we found that many of them needed proof of English ability in their careers or wanted to improve themselves. This is the true reflection of the increasing demand for English as a tool.

Well, language beliefs are dynamic and situated, which means different political, economic situations will change language beliefs. China has been in the situation of modernization and internationalization since 1978's Open-Door policy, so in recent decades, English counts as a global language in terms of China. However, it doesn't mean that English will be a global language permanently. For instance, if more business cooperation between China and Russia, Russian will become the global language from language beliefs in terms of China.

There are several specific factors. (1)Industrial revolution, which started in England gave this country an important economic advantage. (2)International Commerce, which was Great Britain strength for a long time thanks to its colonies and industrial power. (3) World wars. Like world war II, which was won most by English speaking countries. It gave English a boost in Europe. (4) USSR(union of soviet socialist republics) collapse, which made the US the only super power.English spread even faster. (5) Information technology, which has had a deadly growth since the mid 90s, and turn English into everybody’s second language on the web.(6)popular culture. Such as movies, bands. Thus，I think when a language became a global language, it mostly depend on the power of people who speak it.

While English has come to be recognized by many, if not most, as a global language (Crystal, 1997; Graddol, 1997,2006) since Fishman’s statement, it is interesting to explore how this belief is manifested in different contexts around the world. And with the rise of China as an economic force to be reckoned with in the world today (Arrighi, 2007), it is important to explore what the Chinese people think about the status of English. In China, language policymaking has seen tremendous changes in the last half-century. Starting from 1978, with the implementation of the open-door policy and the drive for modernization and internationalization, there have been a number of official measures to promote foreign language education (Hu, 2005; Lam, 2005; Li et al., 1988). The emphasis on learning English has continued unabated in recent years and at present, China boasts the largest English learning population in the world. Over 200 million students in China (or about 20% of the total in the world) are learning English in schools, as are about 13 million young people at university (Taylor, 2002).

On the other hand, many people may stop at the least level for it is enough to pass the CET-4, which in fact obstacled the potential progress a student may achieve in English studying.
