Puck’s soliloquy portrays the theme of dreams and Shakespeare’s technique engages the audience. In a similar manner, Bottom also addresses the audience, thus , the significance of a play within a play is portrayed. Shakespeare also reflects his perception of reality as Puck states : “and this weak and idle theme, no more yielding but a dream”. This broadens the significance of dreams as reality itself might also be considered a dream. People are temporarily not in control of their perceptions and emotions in dreams . Similarly, people in reality are often not in control of their perceptions and emotions . Regarding the play, Demetrius’ love for Helena is similar to a dream as he is not in control of his perceptions and emotions.
