Sometimes we can swim in the ocean. We can when it is sunny and warm.  Sometimes the ocean is TOO cold! Sometimes it is cloudy and not warm.
There ARE sharks in the ocean. They could bite us! (We do get great whites off the coast of Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Whales are their favorite food.) None of us have been bitten by one, though. Whew!!
Yes, there are whales in the ocean.

We would have to drive for 2-3 long days (8-10 hours a day) to get to the Atlantic Ocean or drive 4 long days to the Pacific Ocean. We can walk from our school to a big lake called Lake Ontario and there is a beach. The beach is a bit sandy and has some rocks. There are no sharks or whales at the lake because the water isn’t salty like the ocean, but there are fish and ducks. Sometimes in the summer we can swim in the lake but sometimes the water and beach are too dirty. There are motor boats, sailboats, ferry boats and some small cruise ships in the lake. The cruise ships just stay pretty nearby the city. The ferry boats take us to the Toronto Islands in about 15 minutes. Many of us have gone on the ferry boat. There are NO pirate boats. 
We have some trees in our playground and some trees in  the city. Some of us think there are a lot of trees everywhere and some of us think only some trees.  We are going to look more carefully on our next community wonder walk. 
We will take some photos of our neighbourhood to share when we go on our next walk.   • Some kids have 2 homes they live at
  • Aidan & Nadia live with their mum & sister
  • Selena lives with her mum & grandma
  • Keira lives with mum and dad and her family is moving
  • Aliyah lives with her mum, dad, sister and 2 brothers
  • Nathan lives with mum, step-dad and baby brother
  • Tenzin B lives in a house with just his family 
  • Lots of friends live in apartments with lots of other families
  • Thomas lives in a townhouse

  • Reneco’s grandpa helps look after him

Some friends in our class shared words they know in the languages they speak at home with their families. Here are the languages that our families can speak:
  • Tibetan
  • Nepali 
  • Gujarati 
  • Tamil
  • Arabic
  • Spanish
  • Italian
We made family portraits by gluing different coloured strips of paper on a background. We chose a paper for each person in our family, thinking about their skin colour and how tall they are compared to the other people in the family. Then we wrote labels for everyone (e.g., mummy, daddy, sister, baby, grandpa, etc.). Many of us wrote the labels in the language our family speaks at home. We liked seeing the different ways we can write words, and hearing about each other’s families. We will share some of our pictures with you.
