One way Arabic illuminated manuscripts are similar to European manuscripts is they both are used to brighten stories and make the book more decorative. One way they are different is Arabic manuscripts didn't have paintings of people or living things because they thought only God could create living things. While in Europe, the manuscripts had images of God and people to teach the illiterate.

Muslim historian Ibn Khaldun is important to modern times because he wrote about the history of the entire world. He also wrote about how civilizations rise, grow, and fall and looked for cause and effect relationships behind historical events. Today, we still study the history of our world to learn more about civilizations before us and where we got our ideas. Ibn helped educate others about history by writing books which were spread through trade so that everyone knew about their ancestors.

The Quran is the Islamic holy book. In the Quran are all the messages Allah passed to Muhammad, the prophet. Muslims believe in the Quran are the exact words of God. The Quran states there is one God (Allah) and that everyone will be judged whether they go to paradise or if they will be punished.

The Muslims have made many contributions to the world that are the base of modern day inventions. One of their contributions is they started the idea of libraries and bookstores. While the Europeans only had a few books the Arabs had millions. They had huge libraries and bookstores open to the public. In modern times we still have both. They also contributed many stories and books. One very famous story is Aladdin and his magic lamp, which was made into a Disney film. The story of Aladdin was from the book called The Arabian Nights.
