British colonialism had begun as early as the 16th Century, but gathered speed and momentum between the 18th and 20th Century. This was a positive part of the history of the language because that's when the language officially starts to take part in all the sectors. However, important scholars accepted English as the "world language" . Colonialism was a two-way phenomenon, and Britain’s dealings with these exotic countries, as well as the increase in world trade in general during this time, led to the introduction of many foreign loanwords into English

In 1813, Thomas Jefferson wrote in a letter: "The new circumstances under which we are placed call for new words, new phrases, and for the transfer of old words to new objects." Right now, the need of an own dialect is felt and this guy mentioned above is the pioneer. The biggest excuse for the spreading of the language, was the expansion of a few powers . Nowadays, there are many videos like this one down below, that shows how to get an "american accent", however, it is quite hard to do so when thinking that the process of getting this accent done took so long.

When African people were brought to the North America, they needed to work and so to communicate as well. Although some communication could be established, they needed to get the English Language acquired in order not to misunderstood and get involved in misunderstanding.

Even though there is, now, a specific and intact syntactical/morphological structure many plays and books were released back in the 19th Century and they were the ones which broke a little down these rules. Clearly, this is English taken to a whole new level, pushing the boundaries of the language. James Joyce is a great name among the plays of the century.

The language is still changing as long as its speakers are still evolving and creating new words, slang, abbreviations, and expressions. Nowadays, the language is everywhere... it's a universal one and many dialects are still getting stronger, what is it very curious because it is just like the history is repeating nowadays, just in a different point of view in what concerns to power and place.
