1) This week I learned from the lecture discussing nephrology and toxicology which is very useful for me as a nephrologist. There are some main points that I would like to pick out from the lecture:
- 75 percent of toxins we are facing in the hospital are alcohol, salicylates, and metformin.
- There are 3 factors we need to take account into consisting of distribution volume, substance weight, and protein bound. The most crucial element impacting the efficacy of hemodialysis is the volume of distribution.
- The efficacy of removal HD is better than CRRT (except Lithium)
- Be aware of many types of alcoholic toxicity, not just the only methanol toxicity.
- The diagram of the osmol gap and anion gap could help physicians know the time patients intaking alcoholic toxins.

2) I need to find some official textbooks and guidelines instructing how to define the threshold of alcoholic toxicity (except for a couple of absolute indications such as coma, PH < 7,2, and so on). In addition, how to differentiate the types of alcoholic toxins, and I wonder whether that is important or not.
- Need to understand deeply the role of hemodialysis in metformin toxicity (indication, type of extracorporeal treatment, and so on).
- Should read more about Salicylate toxicity because the professor talked briefly about this substance.
