plot Overview

The plot goes as follows: Robert Proctor was driving with his mother on a usual, calm day. when out of no where, a blue convertible grazes him and sets him off course. He tries to regain control, but can't. As he's flailing around, a car with two people in it (it's driver and the sleeping girl) crash into him, killing him, his mom, the driver, and the sleeping girl. That's when he wakes up in a chair with the uniformed man standing over him. What Robert was in was a simulation to get his drivers license. He failed and because he felt no remorse after the death of the sleeping girl and the driver, he was dragged off to get "fixed". The exposition in The Test would be in the very beginning while Robert was relaxed and driving. The conflict was the accident itself and how he was going to get out of it. The rising action was while he was in the accident. The climax was when the car hit him and he woke up. The falling action was when he woke up and realized it was a simulation. The resolution was when he got dragged off to get "fixed".

literary elements

These are the two literary elements I thought had a big role in this story:

Exposition- Exposition is the setting up of the time , setting , place and/or tone. It's used effectively in The Test because it does a really good job of making you think that nothing will go wrong. so it makes the accident unexpected.

Tone- Tone is the overall feel of a story. It's used effectively in The Test because it shifts unexpectedly in multiple places. In the beginning , it's calming and relaxing. In the middle, it's suspenseful and jumpy. towards the end, it's calming again( in the sense that it's relieving to see Robert unharmed) but jumps right back into the terror when it's revealed he's a goner.

The theme of The Test is to take death seriously. It's described in the story in how Robert p. was dragged off for not feeling remorse for the people he "killed".
