Clean tap water and refill stations on campus is great, BUT we need more (please upgrade old outdated rusted ones!) and single-use packaged products like Pepsi must be removed from campus (ideally, all the toxic polluting vending machines).

Our fundamental rights to clean air, clean water, clean food are still violated by fossil fuels and plastics on campus.

UW Farm and works hard to ensure Food Sovereignity and Zero Waste (at a former city dump site) but they need more support.

Buying nothing beats buying less all the time.

They are making money off of the climate crisis, further concentrate wealth and political power, not fixing the problem but making it even worse, and moving us further away from Just Transition.

Even hydroelectricity is not really a clean renewable energy for many reasons, and is temporary.

The climate crisis should not be reduced to a crisis of carbon: addressing only CO2 emissions without challenging the resource-intensive growth-at-all-costs business-as-usual won't resolve the crisis.

A truthful just transition is place-based and people+nature-oriented (instead of profit-oriented).

It's time for UW community to wake up and push back on its unhealthy obsession/addiction with its football religion!

Recreational sports are more inclusive, equitable, just, healthy, sustainable.

The root causes of the climate change crisis are multifaceted and intersectional.

We all can live well without living better at the expense of others.

We need more flight-shaming for most (but not all) UW members.

Transition is inevitable, Justice is not.

The highly controversial UW-sponsored Marine Cloud Brightening Program ( https://atmos.uw.edu/faculty-and-research/marine-cloud-brightening-program/ ) has long been shut down but remembered and ridiculed as an example of false solutions, techno-greenwashing and business hijacking (including nuclear fusion, AI, "green" hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, geoengineering, cloud brightening, carbon offsetting, etc.)

Innovative research into cheap, simple, and universal energy sources (wind and solar) is still championed by the UW Clean Energy Institute, but main focus is on multidisciplinary, intersectional, social aspects of the crisis, health, well-being and environmental justice.

Any fossil fuel linked research is outlawed and considered illegal at the federal level, thanks to the federal "End Polluter Welfare Act" (https://omar.house.gov/media/press-releases/rep-omar-and-sen-sanders-introduce-legislation-end-corporate-welfare-fossil-0) that finally has been adopted.

UW campus has undergone a thorough rewilding (https://www.amazon.com/Book-Wilding-Practical-Guide-Rewilding/dp/1526659298/), so many curriculum activities are now conducted outside, under tree canopy and among resilient wild native plants, for students to feel more connected with nature. Many staff, faculty members and grad students work and socialize outside as well.

World-wide temperatures will have jumped unexpectedly by a few degrees due to tipping points, but UW Horticulture has gained prominence by breeding heat-tolerant crops, because we know: increased precipitation doesn't help to increase the yields, especially uneven landfalls-droughts patterns; increased CO2 concentration also doesn't help as experiments show (managed to reach only 10% increase in a controlled lab). As crop yields are gonna keep falling worldwide (with swings, we should see sharp effects within 20 years as it's a bell-shaped hump curve), heat-tolerance of the crops will become important, as well as wide-spread vegetarianism, no palm oil, no soybean oil and no sunflower oil in agriculture. By then, UW will be saving big time on its timely transition because costs of gas will become prohibitively high and expensive (future huskies might study development of the UW Sustainability Plan and thank us all, if it goes well...).

City, county and state legislatures are also being engaged collaboratively by NGOs, UW admin, and student groups, and the School of Law to make improvements. E.g. local single-use plastic bans are super effective solution (that's why plastic industry lobbies so hard against them; local legislation and campus bans are a great way to reduce harm to students and local communities and encourage better alternatives. Plus, oftentimes local policy sets the stage for statewide and national policymakers to follow suit (domino/butterfly/snowball/ripple effects).

Meanwhile, representatives of native American tribes are consulted with and directly involved in ensuring land stewardship and campus biodiversity including migratory species (eco-refugees).

To go even more local, the UW Goodwill Store could accept stuff people no longer need. The UW Farm and Botanical Gardens' Miller Library are uniquiely positioned to play a much more important role in the local community by championing Climate Change Education (e.g. via expos, workshops, open classes, talks, featured books) in the face of climate emergency. Simply talking to people about the impacts of their daily jobs on climate change and putting the culprit (the fossil fuel industry) in the spotlight can make a big difference by increasing local political pressure, and give each other hope that the worst outcomes of global heating and broken climate can still be averted in time by new policies and our collective actions.
