I thought Kamishibai was performed only in Japan, but I learned that it is performed in various countries. I believe this art form will continue in Japan. It is helpful for children to develop their imagination because they do not know what comes to the next scene. In addition, the reader can ask questions to the children in the middle of the story. So, I thought it was important for children's education. The story of Amazon was the most interesting for me. The guest speaker was singing and reading, so I was drawn into the world of Kamishibai. I often watched Kamishibai when I was a kindergarten, so I felt really nostalgic.

I grated you listen to her talk today because I could enjoy and find some attractive points of kamishibai. I know kamishibai has attractive points for children because I also was a child. They concentrate on nature during reading kamishibai. Then why are they just watching a picture pained a card and trying to answer the question the reader asked. Today, I also could concentrate on nature because her read performance was excellent; she changed her facial expression, sang, changed the speed for turning pages. She didn’t read the sentence of a story, maybe she remembered the sentence, or she could change some words to own the word. If I can read kamishibai, I will try to read like her!

I learned three points from her talk and kamishibai. First, Kamishibai is better than the book to read aloud. Because, book has letter same page with pictures, but Kamishibai has it different page. If I read aloud it type of book, it is hard to read for me because I should show the pictures for other people. On the other hand, Kamishibai is we could see the only pictures, so I could focus on the pictures. And, if I read aloud it, it is easy for us.
Second, she changed her facial expression when she read a kamishibai. And I know today, I can move the papers to free, together story or scene. It was very interesting.
Finally, kamishibai is the famous around the world. I liked to hear the kamishibai when I was a child, but I couldn't see it on the stage. There are the stage around the world, so I surprised.

I was happy to hear that Kamishibai plays were popular overseas. The effect of Kamishibai on the scene also changes because the speed varies depending on the speaker when changing pages. I think that's interesting point. For example, in the Kamishibai which I watched, I could see the growth of plants one by one. I don't think this can be watched with books. Also, I found it interesting to learn something with Kamishibai and other things. I hope that Kamishibai will continue, but I think it will be difficult because Kamishibai not only doesn't see it sold like a picture book, but now it's done with electronic devices. I don't want it to disappear because I have fun memories of watching Kamishibai when I was little.

I watched the kamishibai long time no see so I enjoyed the kamishibai workshop and I learned a lot of something new. I learned the influences having the kamishibai and the important thing when I decide a book to read. One thing that particularly impressed me was that the speed at which she move the paper doubles the fun. Also, here's an answer to a question I asked her individually. What is important to her when choosing a book to read is the message she wants to send to the children.

I think this artform is good to educate children, but it will not continue in Japan because the diffusion of the kamishibai is decreasing now. Actually, my brother, an elementary school student, has never watched the kamishibai yet. In addition, recent students have tablets and use it to do homework, read textbooks and books, and so on because of coronavirus pandemic. The electric tools are convenient so the analog equipment does not beat the digital tools.

The content that Kamishibai is famous all over the world is interesting for me. I was surprised it and I was happy to hear that Japanese culture spread abroad.

Before today’s class, I thought Kamishibai is only read by Japanese because this is Japanese culture. However, after the class, I learned Kamishbai is read by not only in Japan but also in any other country. Also, I did not know yesterday, I mean December 7th is the day of Kamishibai, and this is common to the whole country. It made me happy because I have like Kamishibai since I was a little child.

When I listened Kamishibai read by our guest speaker Yumi, I noticed two things. First of all, she read with a different expression and a change of tone in her voice. In addition, she changed the speed at which she turned the paper. It is helpful for me and also children to imagine the story. Second, she remembered the sentences of the Kamishibai, so she read fluently. Furthermore, she sometimes asked us questions. It will be useful for listeners to enjoy the story. I could not do like that when I read the picture book as homework, so it was interesting for me.

And more, I could know about the attractive point and the differences between picture books and Kamishibai. First, because The reader shows Kamishibai, the picture is bold and straightforward. On the other hand, picture books can see at close range, so the picture or text is usually smaller than Kamishibai's picture. Also, Kamishibai can be more creative than picture books in terms of reading to the audience. With the guest speaker, I learned a lot about the appeal of Kamishibai. It was exciting to listen to her read some of them, make facial expressions, sing songs in rhythm, and read with inflection. When I was little, I used to enjoy watching Kamishibai, but now I know that there is a reason why I could enjoy them so much.

Also, I learned we could entertain children by changing how to slide or the speed and asking some questions. I liked Kamishibai when I was in kindergarten and elementary school. Also, I learned how to read Kamishibai, and I made a panel theater in a class related to childcare or child culture when I was in high school. So, I was surprised and happy to know Kamishibai has spread around the world. It was a great opportunity to learn Kamishibai in other countries and hear about a guest speaker who makes educational materials today.

However, Kamishibai is famous all over the world, and I was surprised and happy about it. After I watched the Kamishibai, I found that it has a lot of learning. For example, I thought the good idea that Kamishibai about sunflowers is that children can learn about the way of growing sunflowers. I believe that Kamishibai will continue to watch in Japan because Kamishibai is the main Japanese culture and can be teched many things. In addition, Kamishibai can be read to many children at once, and the reader can change the speed and intonation of the story while watching the children’s faces. For these reasons, I think Kamishibai will continue to exist in Japan.

Today, I watched Kamishibai in class. I have thought ever Kamishibai is same picture books, however Kamishibai has some different points compared with picture books. Kamishibai has separated paper. Therefore, Yumi Izuyama can show us in stages what she wants to show. For instance, when she shows the process growing plant sprouts, she displays us in the first stage of growing sprout at first. After that, she exhibits us in the second stage of growing sprout. Finally, she presents us in the last stage of growing sprout. By doing like this, viewer was attracted by showing in stage and they are easy to understand the story flow. Besides, Kamishibai contained voice. For example, Yumi Izuyama said sad voice to express star feeling when she showed the scene crying star. So, I felt the realism and I was　attractive by her voice. This artform is not popular in Japan now because current society has electronics such as youtube and TV. All most children watch story on it because it is convenient for children. In my opinion, if Kamishibai take place convenience, children will be interested in Kamishibai, and it will continue in Japan. In short, this artform are difficult to continue in Japan, yet Kamishibai has many attractive points for current children.

Through the kamishibai workshop, I learned the differences from the books and the goodness of this artform. I was thinking about the goodness of kamishibai before the workshop, but I couldn’t come up with any difference from the books. However, when the guest speaker read it for us, I realized the goodness that I could concentrate on the pictures because there weren’t any sentences on them. Reading kamishibai that was in the box made me excited because opening the box could create the atmosphere that the story would start. When I was a child, the teacher or grandparents read kamishibai for me, but the kamishibai in the box was for the first time for me, so the box itself and the effect of the box was new to me. Although kamishibai is less popular than books nowadays, I want this artform to continue, and I believe so because it has a tradition from the past and merits that it can express the story using the reading technique that the storytellers can’t use on the books. The reading technique is that the storytellers can slide gradually on kamishibai, so they can express the passage of time with the pictures. This technique was the most interesting for me because I couldn’t totally come up with it.

There are three things I learned from the picture-story show workshop. The first is that Kamishibai shows are ideal for reading to the masses. The pictures are large, and the views are written on a single sheet of paper, so they are easy for everyone to see. Secondly, by changing the speed at which the paper is changed, the listener can experience a sense of realism. For example, when pulling out a turnip with a giant turnip, if you can slow down the speed, you can express the weight of the turnip. Third, since there is only one picture per scene and no dialogues, it helps develop the listeners' imagination. This has a positive impact on the education of children. I also believe that this will continue to be the case in Japan. Because Kamishibai show originated in Japan, I don't think it will disappear in Japan, where traditions are cherished. Also, as mentioned above, it is suitable for education, so I think it will continue in Japan. What I found most interesting was Kamishibai shows are enjoyed in many countries. It was exciting to see that it can be appreciated similarly, just like music, even if the language is not understood.

I was also happy to learn that kamishibai is read all over the world. Next, I found out that kamishibai is completely different depending on how it is read. Not only reading, but also changing the way the next page is turned and using stuffed animals made it more interesting. I really enjoyed listening to kamishibai for the first time in a long time. It reminded me of the excitement I felt as a child. It's amazing how a story can become so interesting with just paper and a storyteller. I hope that many more children will read picture story shows in the future.
