Throughout the story we are scrooge struggle with loving others, this is evident as we see Scrooge rejecting others act of kindness. An example of this is when Scrooge's nephew, Fred, invites him to a Christmas party with an upbeat attitude yet Scrooge rejected him even when Scrooge knows he has no plans and no one else would invite him to any other party or dinner. But, the reason for his cold demeanor could be for a reason, I have a theory this could've been caused by his childhood experiences. His parents neglecting him could've weighed so heavy on him that he became so used to being alone that he blocked out everyone around him. Another example of something happening him that could've affected his relationships is when his sister died, I feel his sister was the only person he really had left, and when she died he didn't have someone to talk to her help him cope with the stress he developed in his adolescent years and he could regret maybe not being able to say goodbye or that he couldn't spend more time with her.
