The reason they are fighting was because the French occupied the Dien Bien Phu valley.          <title>Tet Offensive </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Def. a massive surprise attack by the Vietcong on South Vietnamese towns and early cities in 1968. <br><br>On January 30, the Vietnamese New Years Eve, villagers were mourning the loss of many of the war victims. What they didn’t know was that Vietcong agents had hidden weapons in the coffins. They then launched a surprise attack on over 100 towns in Vietnam (including 12 US air bases). It took months for the Vietnamese and US to gain control of these cities back. This war caused people with moderate views to turn against the war.</div>]]></description>

This was done by the slow withdraw of troops from South Vietnam and making sure their were replacement forces for them. We went from having 500,000 troops to less than 25,000 troops in Vietnam.</div>]]></description>
