When I volunteered in an ESL classroom I had a pair of siblings who had just recently come to Canada. They were refugees from Syria and had limited experience with schooling. One math/language game they seemed to enjoy was 'Bingo'. We played to learn new vocabulary or numbers and if the word/picture wasn't fully understood by them we pointed them out in real life. For example 'jeans' I pointed to my jeans and they repeated the word 'jeans' but also connected that to their native language and said the word in that too.
