Day 1

1. My greatest take away is that we are actually not that different in terms of our games and schools. We both have similar games and play style such as the five stone.
Both of our classes are also given based on our grades.

2. I was in charge of facilitating my art programme. I helped iron the five stone’s cloths and learned to be careful with the iron(??)

3. I hope I will be able to talk to my buddy and other students. I was quite shy talking to them. I was thankful that one of them actually continued interacting and talking to us. If she didn’t it will be very awkward and we will just be seeing each other staring.

4. I enjoy receiving snacks and letter from the friends in Korea. Not having the opportunity to visit Korea really made me a little down but I still wanted to participate as I will still be able to interact with people virtually. The snacks were a bonus point as I really like snacks from Korea. They just remind me of the last time I visited. The last bonus point for today was when we were all doing art & craft activities from both sides together. I was kind of proud to be able to do both activities well and could help other students too. Hehe.

honestly today was a blast:) learning about the difference between diverse cultures of both countries with our friends from hillgrove and samgaksan truly benefited me in some way. an increase in my knowledge as well as understanding the samgaksan’s students daily way of life and their history as well as their modern day era.Hope to have more fun and learn more knowledge tomorrow 😁 also make more friends from korea.

1. my biggest takeaway was definitely about Korea’s rich history and i also gained insight on modern Korea. honestly, i have learnt so much! such as places popular among the Korean younger generation, like Lotte World which is an amusement park. i felt that everything shared today was very interesting and memorable.

2. the preparation process was definitely not an easy one, but with the guidance of my teacher, Ms Ynez, i would say that my group did fairly well considering how little time we had. we faced some difficulties like clashing schedules so it was hard finding time to film. overall, it was a fun learning experience and i learnt how to manage my time better as well as how to edit a video!

3. i hope that in the future, if i were to get more opportunities like this, i hope that i will be able to make things more engaging for my audience and manage my time better.

4. the most enjoyable moment today was the zoom break out sessions where i got to communicate and talk to my buddy, Ga On! although it was slightly chaotic with all the background noises, i had fun learning more about my buddy and the other students in the group :D

1: my greatest takeaway was when each school presented on the various topics like current Singapore and Korea. The videos and the presentations were very interesting and i have learned much from our friends from Korea.

2: I had no activities to prepare for today but i did do up the school facilities video. It was really tiring to stare at the screen and add the subtitles and edit the videos. But it was definitely worth it as the students on the other end definitely learned more about our school.

3: I hope that I can try to be more engaging with the students as I was a little shy.

4: The most enjoyable moment of today was definitely the arts and craft. Not only was learning how to make our own country’s traditional game fun, but learning to make the ddakji was very exciting and it was fun and funny to watch my friends try to flip each others ddakji.

1) My biggest take away from the first day is that Korea share some similarities with Singapore as we have similar traditional games like five stones and Gonggi and had quarrels with neighbouring countries over territories for example the dispute between Malaysia and Singapore over Pedra Banca.

3) I really hope to communicate more with my buddy so that i could know more about her and know her personality, therefore forging stronger bonds with them. One of the ways i could communicate better with them is maybe i could start the conversations first so that we won’t end up in a paradox where both parties aren’t able to know each other due to shyness.

4) My most enjoyable moment is either the part where we were able to play ddakji or the moment we started finally talking to our korean buddies. As a person who likes to be competitive, i was extremely excited for ddakji as i could challenge my fellow classmates of a game of ddakji and even if they don’t a ddakji of their own i could make one for them on the spot due to learning how to make them from our korean buddies! As for talking to our korean buddies, it was enjoyable as not all of them were very shy and quite because once one person starts the conversation it will go on and on and on, we just needed to avoid yes/no type of questions and just make them feel as if they are talking to a friend rather than a foreigner

my greatest takeaway is learning more about Korean culture. for example, the island, dDokdo, which was returned to Korea after world war 2 and it is located at the east of Korea. I hope that next time, we get to be more open and more comfortable with each other. my most enjoyable moment was seeing how koreans go through their school life. it was really interesting and a bit different from how we go through school in hillgrove. overall, it was a really great day!

My greatest takeaway was how much I learnt about Korean culture and how different we are. However I feel like we have many similarities too. I learnt alot of new things to broaden my view on this world about another culture alot today!

I did the ethnic costumes video with Meryle and Maya. I think we did a really good job in showing our culture within these traditional costumes.

I hope we can interact with the Korean students more and as we didn't really interact with them that much today during day 1 as I think we were shy.

The most enjoyable moments are watching the videos they Korean students made for us as they are very fun and entertaining. Also I also enjoyed making the Ddakji as this was my first time making it.

1. My greatest takeaway is that the korean culture is very interesting due to the rich history and amazing traditional costumes. I do not have any korean friends, so these facts and visuals being introduced is very nice.

2. There was a video that i had to film with my group mates. We had to travel to places to film and even narrate on the video. It was a fun and new experience.

3. I hope to interact more and get to know my buddies as the ice was not broken fully.

1. My biggest take away from today was the difference between the Korean and Singaporean culture. Firstly, Korean students are allowed to choose between pants or skirt whereas in Singapore girls are only allowed skirts. Next, Korea students have different yet unique subjects compared to us Singaporeans. 2 special subjects that they study are Housekeeping and Technology.
2.During the preparation of our video that there are alot of behind the scenes to make such a short 10minute video captivating yet insightful. My group had spent many days (and possibly sleepless nights) to produce our final product. We had to script write, memorise, film, act and etc which underwent alot of time and effort. However after viewing the video, I felt a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment instilled in me as all the hard work from my team and myself had paid off. <3
3.What I wished I could have done better was to better interact with the Korean students there as there was this thick wall between us. I hope that on Day 2, the wall would have been broken down and we could all better interact with one another
4.The most enjoyable moment for me was viewing the various videos done by the Samgaksan students as the videography and content done by them were well done and interesting

Day 1
1. I find that one of my biggest take will be how their school life schedule will be like when they vlog their morning routine and preparation for school.
2.it is really tiring and a tedious process to film places in Singapore especially when we have to travel everywhere. However,I would say that is a memorable trip when me and my group are able to revisit so many beautiful places in Singapore!
3. I hope there will be more time to interact with our buddies and also hopefully we are able to be in the destinated breakout room so that we can bond together. Even though me and my buddy never get a chance to interact with each other on zoom, I was still able to engage in conversation with the people in zoom.
4. I would say the part when we receive the snacks. I was so looking forward to try it. It was delicious and I'm very thankful for that. In addition, the making of ddakji is also memorable especially when we are able to play it with our friends. It is truly an enjoyable session.

1. My biggest takeaway is that even though we have many differences like our daily lives and the way we speak, we still have many similarities like how they have a traditional game which is like 5 stones

2. The preparation process was quite challenging as we kept going past the deadline that we set for ourselves and we knew we would have trouble remembering our lines as there are many scenes. However, instead of worrying, we just looked for a different way to make it work

3. Something I could do better is communicating with them as I did not know what to talk about and they weren’t talking that much either

4. My most memorable experience is still the breakout rooms. We couldn’t have long conversations, but we still were able to make conversation with them. And when the breakout rooms were quickly over, it made me realise that I like getting to know them even though I didn’t know all of the people in my group

1. Personally the greatest takeaway for today is being able to make friends with the Samgaksan students. Through interacting with the students from Korea I learnt many things about both their school and daily life . Such as their clubs where they are able to create their own unique clubs, and their lesson subjects like housekeeping where they learn about life skills, for example planning meals.

3. Next time i hope to be able to communicate better with them as in the beginning of the breakout sessions I was pretty quiet which led to me not getting to know my buddy well, but i am glad to say that after texting my buddy after the session I learnt a thing or two about him.
4. The most enjoyable part for me today was the Korean arts and craft segment where we learnt how to make our own Ddakji, and where we also found out we had similar traditional games.

1) My biggest takewaway is most probably the Korea’s messy and rich history. One of the stories was about dokdo island. Dokdo island in Korean is called solidarity island, it was stolen by the Japanese but they have no records claiming it. After World War II it was given to Korea back because it has been a part of Korean territory historically.

2) the preparation process at the start was very messy because so many things were going on like the noise, people accidentally interupting and me forgetting my lines. But with the help of Mr Leong i was able to remember

3)My biggest challenge was the ipad and me and buddy being separated because of my technical issues. I can resolve this is by figuring out what is wrong with my ipad

4) The greatest takeaway was the zoom break, because i got to interact with people who came from a different backgrounds and culture so far away from Singapore.

my greatest takeaway was learning more about Koreas history like the Dokdo island, and how it’s history is adapted into modern Korean dramas, to keep its history alive for younger generations to appreciate.

it was my first time filming for a school project and the experience was really eye opening and interesting to see parts of singapore that i had never explored in depth even though i live here.

i hope to be more vocal in the future and take the initiative to start meaningful conversations, and find common ground with our korean friends :)

the most enjoyable moment for me was during the hands in activities where we got to make the “five stones” and the “ddakji” even though it was abit hectic and chaotic, i think the hands on crafts really added on to the experience and helped me experience the immersion programme on a deeper level.

1. I think it’s that other countries and cultures are so different and interesting that it is worth learning about. It is almost like we are living in different worlds. Everything from the school down to the environment is almost completely different.

1) My greatest takeaway was when i saw them speaking English. They really impressed me with they fluent English and accent especially the female teacher!
2) My group was in charge of the making of the 5 stones. The preparation process was kinda tedious as we had to cut out the small pieces of cloth for one individual 5 stones. However, with the support and help from my teammates, we preserved and it was actually really fun and i didn’t feel that it was tiring at all! I learnt that teamwork is important if we want to get things done.

1) I learnt that my Korean buddy is actually 14! That means she isn’t the same age as me woah! I also learnt that she really loves dolls especially cute plushies and she can play the clarinet. This is an important learning point for me as i get to learn how to communicate and diverse myself with people of different countries which prepares me for future opportunities. Thank you hip Korea for this opportunity!!
2) (my group was yesterday)
3) I encountered wifi problems as well as problems communicating with my buddy. This was because our surroundings were pretty loud at times, hence we couldn’t communicate properly and sometimes we couldn’t even hear each other. Luckily, we solved the problem and resorted to texting online to get to know each other. :D
4) My greatest takeaway from the Korea hip programme has to be the creation of my Korean name. I find it really cool that I now have a Korean name, though I’m not Korean! I can share with people about my Korean name and impress them with my newfound knowledge of Korea that i learnt from this program.

1. i learnt that my buddy likes the same kpop group txt as me ! i also learnt that her favourite class is pe :>. it is important as i learnt how to communicate and break the silence between me and buddy by having something in common to talk about. it is also to get to know each other better and make friends !

1. something new i’ve learnt about my international friends is that we both really want to learn each other’s languages so that we can communicate and get closer to each other. we both really want to become good friends and meet in the future and i think its really amazing how we are already planning on meeting even though we have barely known each other for a day. we both have an interest in each other’s countries so i think that it would be very enjoyable to visit each other.

1. I learnt about what type of movies he likes, what foods we eat, our clubs/ccas and so much more 🤩 this learning point is incredibly important as through this I get to understand my buddy better.
2. Today my group did present but I was not in charge of anything such as being the mc or the presenter. However I did demonstrate a few minutes of my Taekwondo numbchucks forms, I was extremely nervous as I had not practice for it and only had time earlier that day to practice. Overall I would say presenting in-front of the Korean students was a great experience as I had to step out of my comfort zone and experience more that I would have if I had stayed within my comfort zone.
3. A challenge I faced was getting myself ready for the demonstration as I was incredibly nervous. I then got over my fear of an audience and just went with the flow of things which ended up great for me.
4. The greatest takeaway for me did not come from the days I interacted with the Korean students, instead it was the whole process of it. From the planning to the execution of the plan, to be able to visit a bazar, to be able to collaborate with others to prepare for the hip and finally to be able to meet new people. So personally my greatest takeaway from the HIP would be the experience I have gained from it.

1. I have learnt a lot about my Korean buddy, 가온! such as what colour she likes, her hobbies, and her favourite drama :) it is an important learninh point for me because i get to know what are our common interests and also more about what people my age in Korea like.

3. A challenge I encountered today was pushing myself to go out of my comfort zone and talk with my buddy. I overcame this bu reminding myself that this might be a once-in-a-lifetime type of opportunity that may not come again so I should make the most out of my time here! I was also able to do so as 가온 was extremely nice and friendly! She made me feel very comfortable and we were able to have a very fruitful conversation as we learnt more about each other’s schools and ourselves.

4. my greatest takeaway from the whole programme was definitely how I learnt more about Korea. Specifically I think the mosy helpful and impactful presentation was on the Korean Language where the students taught us basic phrases and also the Korean alphabet. their presentations in general have made me even more interested in their history and culture! I would be able to apply my knowledge in the future in occassions where I am able to visit Korea in person and I’ll be able to put the phrases I learnt today into use! Such as “ 안녕하세요 “ ( annyeonghaseyo ) which means hello! :D

All in all, I have learnt much during this programme and I am very grateful for this opportunity to make new friends from other countries! despite the physical distance we are able to comminicate through the wonder of technology and gain insight on another country’s culture ~

1. Something I learnt about my friend is that she is incredibly smart and good at studying, unlike me. This was an important point as I learnt that even those who are polar opposites are able to bond well

3. A challenge that I encountered was that sometimes I wasn't sure what my buddy was saying and I think that there might have been a few times where she didn't understand me either. I stayed patient and asked if she could repeat herself and describe certain things to me. I also rephrased my question and tried to speak more clearly so that she could understand me easily.

4. My greatest takeaway is that even from the simplest topics such as school, we will have many things to talk about. I am usually not good at interacting with others, however, with this new knowledge, I know that small talk can lead to long conversations

Day 2

1. I learned that my buddy likes the same K-pop group as me, bts. Hehe. Even though we have different bias, we are still from the same fandom. Also, my buddy isn’t how she looks. She also likes English and pe. She is quite shy when talking to me but I believe the awkwardness will soon disappear if we keep interacting. My buddy was also kind enough to download Instagram just for this HIP. It was very convenient for me as I didn’t have to download the Kakao app to talk with her. I like my buddy.

2. I didn’t participate in any thing today.

3. One of the challenges was the internet connection on her side. She could understand me perfectly fine but her internet connect was making her lag and she wasn’t able to hear me at times. Another challenge was when they were teaching us their Hangul. I could read and say the phrases perfectly fine but when it came to the part when they teach us their ‘alphabets’, I couldn’t understand anything. I guess my brain just logged off.

4. My greatest takeaway is obviously the history and other information they shared with us. One way I will use it is to flex my knowledge when someone ask about Korea. Hehe. I will also use the phrases they taught us and maybe try to learn Korean (?) so that I can talk to my buddy and learn more from her.

1. i learnt that for hangul, they have more alphabets than us and that some of them are doubled (the consonants) and also that the samgaksan students have five midterms per yeat (😱) and that they had just finished the first one this/last week. i also learnt a lot more things about my buddy, 윤후! she has academy (something like tuition) onee certain days and what type of snacks she likes eating (+ how she felt about this program).
2. the preparations was not hard but not easy as well as the things needed to be distributed evenly. overall, the activity was fun and we had interacted a lot with each other today.
3. some challenges were the (zoom) video lagging and we were not able to hear each other cleary and the language barrier. although they were quite fluent in english, there were times where they do not understand what we were saying and needed clarification or that we both have a hard time understanding each other.
4. my takeaway is that i definately had learn a lot more about korea. the presentation was very helpful and understandable such as their explanations for each slides and the learning of korean alphabets. they had made me be more interested about korea’s history and places. i would be able to to apply my knowledge in occasions where i am able to visit korea, i will be able to use phrases like “ 안녕하세요” ! i also learn how to communicate more with new people and that will help me open up more to those in the same program as me whom i do not know in the future.

1) I’ve learned that after school and also on the weekends that my buddy goes to a academy to study further and they end around 8pm. This is an important learning point as it emphasises their discipline as they go to the academy almost every single day without fail to study while we in Singapore end latest at 4 or 5 due to CCA and even after CCA i would go home and not even do a single ounce of homework while on the Korean side they still need to do their homework, its really amazing.
2) I was the presenter for the food of Singapore and for my part i learned how to not panic and speed through the slides but instead going slowly and making sure that the korean side can understand what im saying so that they can take down the things they’ve learned. The preparation process involved me being psyched up because i don’t want the quiz and the slides to be boring for the korean side but also i was trying to not have nervous breakdown :)))
3) During the part we were able to talk to our buddies i had the idea to show her around my school because there were places not highlighted in the video like the canteen and the library but i was experiencing network issues not allowing me to show her around though i said ti her that i would take pictures of the places and send them through KaKaoTalk
4) My biggest take away is the knowledge i’ve learned about Korea’s culture and history. I’ve learned so much about them through their detailed presentations and cute videos showing the foods they eat and the places they’ve gone to. Their presentations really made learning about Korea much more fun as they have painstakingly put in the effort to make them packed with information and also make them look aesthetically pleasing. When i go to Korea for a holiday, hopefully, i would like to go to these places, obviously with my buddy, to try out the foods shown in the video and visit the places shown in the presentations.

What was my greatest takeaway?

I learn about many things including the type of food they have there and their traditional culture food including tteokboki and kimchi which i definitely feel like I should try. I also learned how to write my name in korean which was really cool as I always wanted to have a korean name. I also learnt more about my buddy, she was more quiet and reserved so I had to talk more.

In the activities you were in charge of - what was the preparation progress like and what did you learn?

I was in charge of sharing and presenting on the Local foods. It was really fun throughout when we went on a mini journey to the Ramadan bazzar. I learnt much more about Ramadan culture and I even tried the food from the Ramadan bazzar. The preparation progress was a little rush and we met some challenges but after everything, I had a lot of fun.

What was your most enjoyable moment for today?

The most enjoyable moment was when I don on the Korean hanbok. It was my first time in my fifteen years of life trying the traditional Korean hanbok and at first i was abit scared as I thought i would look bad in it but i kinda loved it a lot in the end as the whole hanbok was so pretty and filled with many intricate details and it was super nice overall. The material used on the hanbok was really comfortable too. It was a fun experience for me and if i has another chance, I would try on the hanbok again.

4. All of things HGV prepared were good. Especially, I think watching introduction of Hillgrove Secondary School and Singapore History & Ethnic costumes were most interesting part. I could know that Singapore's school is very cool. And, I can learn about Singapore more well

1. My greatest takeaway was to learn about each other's culture and to improve our friendship. I also improved my confidence. I learned many about Singapore’s cultures and places. 1. We communicated a lot on Day 2. And learned a lot about my buddy! We shared what we like. We shared what is our favorite subject, what is our favorite color, and who is our favorite Kpop singer. Finally, we finished the presentation successfully!

3. Maybe it was the breakout sessions. It was really fun but also hard for me. To speak in English was hard though, but learning from my buddy was great. I could improve my English speaking skills. And I became better at talking in English.

4. My biggest takeaway is improving friendship, responsibility, and also fellowship. Also learning about Singapore was a great takeaway for me. Learning about new things from a new friend improved friendship. Also, I gain knowledge. Learning about new cultures was really interesting and useful. If I visit Singapore in the future, I think I'll gonna remind these memories. Also, I'm going to share with my friends what I learned during this programme. Making new friends was a really nice opportunity. The friendship and responsibility, a fellowship that I learned during this programme will be another opportunity for me. 1) The thing that i learned is that the Korean language is harder than English. The reason because they have 21 vowels and 19 consonants and some of them are doubled consonasts. Also from what i heard from my buddy is that school is quite tough, like in Singapore.

2) The activity that i was in-charge of was making powered ballon car. At first it was very complicated because when you want to make the wheel you have to poke the bottle cap and insert a satay stick. It is also scary because we could accidentally poke ourselves. But luckily mr Leong taught us how to poke it properly.

3) The challenges that we encounter was that our devices kept disconnecting, so instead of 25 minutes of talking to your buddy for, us it was 15 minutes we resolve it by me going next to mr samuel.

4) The greatest takeaway was from the KOREA-hip Programme was talking to your buddy session. Even though was were complications we were manage to talk. Suprisingly me and my buddy have somethings in common. How will you apply to the future ?maybe i could start being more socialble to people from far away places to learn about different backgrounds.

1) My greatest takeaway was communicating with my buddy through zoom. We talked about our daily life, school and other things. While talking, I felt a lot about the differences between Korea and Singapore cultures, schools, etc. If the background was less noisy, I bet I could talk with my buddy more clearly. First day’s takeaway is marvelous. We are living in a different places but I found a lots of common things. While I am talking to Rasuli I could find lots of similarities such as foods, school, games, it was so amazing to know that and I felt that earth is quite small.
Second, By making a film? Vlog? of my class I can see and think one more time of my class. I didn’t know it but my classmates are so cute!! And they do there best in there area. It was very great experience.

1)I learned that he loves to eat and he is the president of his club. It was really cool. I think the club was really cool too. He was at a robot club. I’ve never heard about it so I felt I want to try it and it was interesting. By this I could know there are a lot of kinds of clubs and I envy it.

1. My buddy likes to listen to music during her free time like kpop. She also likes the colour purple.
I find that she is a very hard working student that is very knowledgeable because she have studied many different languages and I'm just amazed that she is able to cope with it.
3. The challenge for today is the technically difficulty that we are unable to communicate verbally and I just wish that we could have more time to interact with each other. However, I still managed to interact with each other through the zoom chat. I like how even through chatting, we are still able to convey our emotions to each other.
4.i was able to make new friends and learn more about their culture, at the same time, enjoying the process by making memories which I find that it is truly an unique experience that I have never had before. 1) My greatest takeaway was that thier school had many various clubs. There were various clubs that do not exist in our school, so it was memorable. Also I learned about Singapore friedns school life in detail.
Since Singapore friends make school introduction video in detail, so I could know about thier school facilities and school life.
2) I prepared a game of slap-match.
In the process of preparing, I found out video about slap-match. I thought it would be diffult to explain in Engish, but it was easy when I tried it. With this opportunity, I gained confidence in speaking Engilsh.

2. I did the teaching Korean thing with 김가온. Before this Hillgrove activities, we prepare a lot. We met in online and talked about this. We also practice presentation. And doing this I learned that proud of preparation.

1. My greatest takeaway was that I could talk with Singapore hillgrove secondary school friends. By talking with my buddy I could know that Korea and Singapore is similar but also different.

2. I taught how to make ddakji to hillgrove friends, it was such an amazing time! I really liked that our hillgrove friends followed my instruction well, and liked that!

3. I hope I can explain how to make ddakji more easier, and I want to use a concise expression next time. Because I thought this time, terms of Covid-19 were quite difficult. And I would like meet our hillgorve friends in offline, and play ddakjitchiggi together.

4. All of things HGV prepared were very good. Especially, I think watching introduction of Hillgrove Secondary School and Singapore History & Ethnic costumes were most interesting part. (1) I learned that my buddy like k-pop with me. I was pleased to find common interests with my buddy. buddy said they like txt among K-pop idol groups. And she said she likes Lee Dong-🤬. and l made a korean name for buddy! name is Yoon seul (윤슬), his meaning a ripple that shines in the sun or moonlight. It was nice that she seemed to like it.
(2) I couldn't hear budddy's voice in detail because there was a noise in the conversation, but I was thankful that Buddy said it again kindly. and buddy changed the name of the SNS account to the Korean name that I made!♥♥ I was very proud:)
(3)Making a car was easier than I thought. However, I was embarrassed because the balloon didn't blow after completing it. But when I changed the location and tried again, the balloon got bigger. It was a strange and fun activity when the car moved!
(4) I will never forget this exchange with Singapore. It is a great opportunity to make new and different country friends and learn each country's culture from their friends!🤍 I want to visit Singapore if I have a chance because I get to know and become interested in Singapore.

1. The biggest takeaway was to know many cultures of Singapore. Usually, there are not many opportunities to encounter the culture of other countries. I learned a lot from hearing about Singapore's culture.

2. I was in charge of introducing Hanbok, the traditional clothes of our country. So I watched a video that introduced how to wear Hanbok. It is a traditional Korean costume, but I haven't worn it very much, so I didn't know how to wear it either. But through this, I learned how to wear Hanbok in detail.
