In the city, access to a wide array of healthcare services, including specialists, hospitals, GPs, and allied health professionals, is typically within reach, even if it's not always cost-effective, immediate, or geographically convenient. However, as we venture into the rural, regional, and remote areas of Australia, this narrative undergoes a profound transformation. The podcast aims to shed light on how healthcare access changes in these less densely populated regions. It explores the challenges, disparities, and unique solutions that arise when healthcare becomes a different story outside the city limits.

-Maguad, Angela

Furthermore, we need to understand that providing and ensuring equal access to healthcare for everyone can be a daunting task since healthcare itself is complex, which is why we have to factor in different aspects when providing universal healthcare. According to the text, these problems are prominent and evident among rural places which often have 'barriers' that could be a lack of healthcare services or the geographical remoteness that may hinder these amenities. We can come up with a solution for these issues if we dig deeper into the underlying reasons.

-Divino, Marko
-Dela Cruz, Marc

Mallari Jr., Joey Gabieta, Nestor Burgos Jr.

DATE PUBLISHED: July 22,2019
KEY INFO: A lot of rural areas face significant challenges when it comes to accessing medical services, often due to the absence of proper medical institutions. This forces people to travel farther than they should, exhausting them of their resources and financial state. Furthermore, since most people who reside in rural areas do not have enough money to spend for the expenses, they rely on traditional doctors and sometime even 'quack doctors' or shamans for aid, which are less effective than actual medicine, or may even be scams. Although, there are some readily available medical treatments in rural areas, they still lack the essential medicine in case of a full blown operation or treatment. This highlights the need of financial support and investment for healthcare in rural areas to ensure a steady supply of medicine and to maintain enough properly trained personnel for administering aid.

-Divino, Marko

Consequently, this is also why rural areas have less medical attention than their urban counterparts. In addition, rural communities often suffer in chronic illnesses as well as lack of funding, therefore, rural areas are at a risk of having limited access to various medical services. Furthermore, since most medical institutions have closed, people who live in rural areas have no form of immediate medicinal treatment, which is important especially when it comes to life threatening illnesses or diseases. Fortunately, the article has given some suggestions on how to healthcare in rural communities. These include the usage of 'mobile-health clinics' and implementing telehealth for long-range communication where people can get advice from doctors without having to travel a dozen kilometers. Lastly, another solution is to collaborate with larger healthcare networks to procure valuable resources for rural areas.

-Divino, Marko
