At the elementary level, connecting 'purpose' to post-secondary options is a little too abstract. Elementary students find purpose for school in the enjoyment of daily activities, and belonging in the school cultures. When they feel they belong, they are motivated to participate and engage.

Helping them understand their learning style and how to learn in a way that works for them. Not everyone learns best on an ipad and so there should be choice given. Often times because of district expectations, students are expected to learn on ipads or digitally.

I work with students to promote coping skills, emotional regulation, feelings communications, and provide them a safe space to speak about how they feel at school and at home. I also provide mental health resources for students and direct services to support their socio-emotional/behavioral skills.

We offer school clubs to students to find some things they are interested in including art club, running club, science olympiad, social studies olympiad, safety, service squad, and student council, etc.

In class we continue to offer different choices to ensure they have the opportunity to select an option that supports their interests. During lessons we try to connect to the world around them as well.

In elementary, I feel like we are able to start small and help kids know their purpose within our classrooms by identifying their strengths and helping them to realize what they have to offer to their classmates, teachers, and school community.
