         <description><![CDATA[<p>The brilliant colors of autumn leaves are due to the breakdown of chlorophyll, the green pigment responsible for photosynthesis. As days shorten and temperatures drop in autumn, trees stop producing chlorophyll, allowing the previously masked pigments: carotenoids (yellow/orange) and sometimes newly produced anthocyanins (red) to become visible before the leaves drop.</p>]]></description>
