an IB World School

and a school with an

IB programme?

Not PC, but I think you can be an IB world school even before you have IB programmes. It's a question of how you see learning and the DNA of the school. Is the teaching that happens at the school aligned with the IB framework?

An IB World School is a school that has fully integrated the IB mission, not only from a curriculum standpoint

We are fully committed with the IB philosophy. First school in Spain that implemented the continuum.

To me, it means a great opportunity for Sixth formers to have access to a quality program education that will prepare them well for uni, but I´d say some members of my community wouldn´t probably know how to answer that question at the moment as we are just at the implementation stage right now.

My school is an IB world school since the school offers all the IB programs- PYP, MYP, CP & DP. All aspects of the IB are practised and mostly well understood by the school committee.

Parents are grade oriented. They only think about the grades and opt out of the IB. Challenge : how to help parents understand the advantages of the IB.

IGCSE are deeply embedded

In a public, national school in the Netherlands : Parents are very unfamiliar with the IB and we go very slowly. They don't understand the IB. Parents are focused on their child's orientation (4, 5 or 6 year programs). Parents of more academically oriented children don't understand how the program works and what types of opportunities it opens.

Students only have the DP - full diploma or certificates. Next year when we open the CP, there will be a choice and this may impact student choices.

Students are leaving less to study abroad since COVID and they don't see the advantages of doing the IB diploma and worry about the grades. We're trying to communicate about the advantages of the IB framework. But why would you choose the hard way if you can choose the easy way?

I work as a DP coordinator and Head of Sixth form at Leigh Academy Blackheath in London. We are a state school and part of an academy trust which is one of the largest collections of IBWS in Europe. I am also an IBEN (Programme Leader & Workshop Leader). I am keen to connect with other DP coordinators to collaborate but also other IBWS in France/Spain where we can hopefully arrange some opportunities for our students to engage through school visits.
