In the computer lab, students keep track of their typing speeds and accuracy. Students use this data to set typing goals for themselves. To take it a bit further they could record , graph, and analyze the class's data or even the grade level's data for typing.

I like using data such as the price index, population statistics, etc. in the classroom for students to analyze changes in economics. Students also collect their own data for Market Research by pushing out surveys to determine which products potential customers would like to see. I also use data to understand student achievement and to help determine what I need to focus on in my teaching.
- Katharine

I used crowd sourced data with my college students every semester. Until this module I never thought of ever using it with 1st graders! If I choose the correct data set and website I think there are actually tons of uses for this in my classroom. This will give my students relevant, current data to utilize when we are learning about the various ways to collect, display and interpret data.
- M. B. Morris

PLTW and other science curriculum require tons of data collection. Hands on labs require data collection. The enrichment program requires data collections. There is no shortage outside of math to collect data.

I never thought about using a Google Spreadsheet for any thing other than math, which didn't usually apply to me. However, I could have used it last year when my 5th graders were discussing different characters and their attributes in our novel study. This would have helped them organize their thoughts. I will use this in my classroom this year. I am looking forward to it as my students last year became frustrated with writing about the characters because their thoughts were not organized well. I think Google Spreadsheets will definitely help them this year.

Well I must say this is most likely the most relevant module for the area of mathematics. Data can be utilized from data engines such as data.gov in order to review small business numbers in order to make learning more authentic. During to 8th grade year students must be able to review data and plot the variables on a graph in order to determine if there is a positive or negative correlation between the two. Utilizing real data, rather than made up data will make learning the skill interesting and like I said before, authentic.
