Everyone respects Slim and sees him as their leader. Even though Curley is the boss's son, the men see Slim as the real authority figure on the farm. Any time Slim and Curley get into a disagreement, it is always Curley who retreats, showing that Slim has the real power. 
Curley:
Curley is the boss's son, meaning he can act however he wants because he can't be fired. He acts tough and picks fights on big guys but always loses.
