predator/ prey
wolves are predators to elk,elk feed the wolves, in which the wolves live. if grass/trees were to die, the elk would die and then the wolves would not have food, then they would die. That's why when elk are moving/ underpopulated, the wolves have a hard time eating, and might die

There are 10,000-20,000 elk in 6-7 different herds each summer. elk usually travel in quite large herds about 200 or more per herd. in the past 20 years elk has fallen from 10,000-20,000 to just a few thousand. in 2016 there were about 108 wolves in 11 packs. wolf numbers have went from 83-108 from 2009-2016. The highest the wolf population (in Yellowstone national park) numbers have been since 1995 was in 2003 and they were rounded up to about 180. the population is decreasing because people will hunt the wolves that have moved outside of Yellowstone because loss of food.

Death by predator is more natural and right, then death by starvation. both are natural but death by predator is more right, because then the ecosystem is in balance, when its in balance its where natural animals, plants, and non-living things are working together for their ecosystem. Not all predators hunt the weak and sick prey. It depends on the predator, more advanced and skilled predators will be able to get faster more, healthy prey. While more slower wolves will catch the sick prey, instead of getting possibly hurt by healthier prey. The deer would be worse of without the wolves because if they overpopulate then, the food supply will start decreasing and most deer would die from starvation.

When the wolf population goes up, the elk/ moose population goes down. In the graph you see that in 2003-2004 the wolves population goes up to 100 wolves, so then the moose population goes down to 8000 when being 14000 just 3 years before. When the wolf population is up, the moose population is down.
