At the very beginning of the book, Pip goes to a legal mediation to come to an agreement with a person she exposed on her podcast who is about to sue her for libel. She gets extremely angry at this person because she knows he is guilty of what he did and does not want to make an agreement with him.

Mysterious messages

Pip's mom tells her that she found a dead pigeon on their lawn. Shortly after, she receives a mysterious message saying, "Who will look for you when you're the one who disappears?".

Stalker?

Pip continues receiving weird messages and finding dead pigeons along with headless chalk figures on her driveway. Later on her run, she finds writing on the sidewalk that says, "Dead Girl Walking". She starts to suspect that she has a stalker and reports her situation to the police.

On Her Own

The police tell Pip that she is overreacting and that she most likely does not have a stalker. They believe she is still freaked out from the last case she investigated and that she just needs to rest and calm down. Pip gets angry and leaves the police station. She decides to investigate on her own.

Research

Pip begins to do research and tries to find anything that could help her find out what is going on. Eventually, she finds an article about a serial killer that was arrested years ago in her town. She found in the article that the victims of this killer also were receiving anonymous calls and messages and finding weird things near their home. She gets in contact with people who may have information about the case and interviews them.

No caller ID

A little while later, Pip starts receiving calls from an unknown person. She downloads an app that will reveal the phone number of the person calling her.

Haunted Printer

In the middle of the night, Pip's printer starts printing something, even though she didn't send anything to the printer. All of a sudden, her speaker turns on by itself and starts blasting music. She realizes that her stalker is close enough to her house to connect her printer and speaker. Her parents come into her room and ask what is going on. She says it was an accident and that it won't happen again. The paper that came out of the printer read, who will look for you when you're the one who disappears?

Abduction

Pip goes out on a walk and gets another anonymous call. She checks the app and reveals the person's phone number. She is about to go report it, but then someone grabs her from behind and kidnaps her.
