I could use Kahoot (a game-based quiz tool) in my third grade classroom. I would use it in the Closure part of a lesson. At the end of a science lesson on plant parts, I could create a short Kahoot with five questions, such as “Which part of the plant makes food?” or “What do roots do?” Students would join with their devices and answer the questions. This would help me quickly see what they learned, and it would also give students a fun way to review before leaving class.

After reading the short story “Thank You, Ma’am” by Langston Hughes, students will respond to a Flip prompt created by me. The prompt will ask: “What do you think is the main theme of the story? Use one example from the text to support your answer.”

WAYS TO USE IN THE CLASSROOM:

Blooket is a web-based platform that facilitates interactive quizzing - either from premade question sets or from one that the teacher creates. Students can log in via game code on any device, which is nice and easy! It encourages interaction and motivation with the principle of competition and immediate response.

Lesson Plan Part: Guided Practice

Specific example:

When I’d lead a reading comprehension workshop, I’d use Blooket to review details and main ideas from an already read story. I would make a personalized Blooket quiz and include questions like, “What is the main idea of the story?” or “What does this detail tell us about how the character feels?” We would play the game as a class where I would walk around and help when needed. This will be a fun and interactive way to help strengthen their comprehension skills as well as gain immediate feedback on which concepts we need to revisit.

I would like to use Baamboozle for 1st grade, this is a free, game-based learning platform where teachers can made quizzes or create their own. The class plays on a single screen without needing individual devices. Students are going to be divided into teams and take turns choosing a question number from the game board. The platform is highly engaging because points are awarded randomly, keeping the game exciting and unpredictable. This platform is perfect for reviewing concepts, practicing vocabulary test, and to create a guide for tests. Using Baamboozle during closure transform a simple review into a interactive and memorable game.
